With this, what they want is to sell DLCs of new custom maps. If they let people make their own maps, then they would probably be better than theirs, and thus, they wouldn't be able to sell DLCs without investing more on them. DLCs are easy money, and user created content is its enemy.
They sacrifice the life of a videogame for money; but well, I'm not surprised, with people like Activision releasing a CoD each 6 months.
They'll just ruin the industry. Thanks god I'm not used at buying those kind of games (SC2 and D3 are the exception, I only buy good quality/price games, which in most cases means relaunches or special offers, I'm not wasting 60€ on crap when I can waste 20€ on art).
Me and my clanmates are waiting for Red Orchestra 2 which as announced will have both dedicated servers and modding tools - full support for the community. I don't even bother looking at any FPS which does not have modding tools... they are by that so anonymous. It's really no fun playing solo... well... for no brainers it might be.
it's all about control over your product these days
mod support means people can make their own maps, making map packs pointless
thats the biggest one. in relation to COD/BF anyway.
but yea. i think power to the community is the best thing possible
most of the things that have made games great have come out of the community in terms of mods or 3rd party software (not hacks, useful tools)
it's disgusting to see developers not supporting modding anymore.
even blizzard, sure it's there. but i feel like their support is lacking and they obviously have different priorities.
I agree with you guys, seems like today's fps-s are made for brainless people. I stopped competitive fps playing since cod 2. (cod 2 had some pretty awesome mods)
Since than I play like 1 week with some of the better fps-s. But I wont support this failed industry, so I am using cracked versions.D
No mode support for battlefield 3 and codMW2. http://www.moddb.com/games/battlefield-3/news/no-mod-support-for-battlefield-3
Opinions? (game industry want to get even less variety?)
Game industry is RE-TAR-DED.

I am appalled that the next Call of Duty clone won't have mod support.
What ever shall I do? Oh right - play TF2 :]

I played CoD4 too because there were still remnants of CoD community but I truly miss CoD:UO
