I am not a dad, heck, I am not yet 17 and I won't be a dad until I am at least 25 probably. Not the point but here we go.
My 10 year old sister came home to tell my mother that the will be watching "A nightmare on elm street" at her similarly aged friend's birthday party. Mom won't let her for good reason if that movie really will be watched. Giving 10 year olds heart problems? JEEZ COME ON DUH! If you want, watch this trailer to see what I mean.
It's about a guy who kills people in his neighborhood for crying out loud! Some parents...well...forgive me for saying this...but are just completely out of their mind stupid idiots that practically don't deserve to be parents.
Don't feel stupid.. caring is the only prerequisite for good "parenting".
i am a parent (not that makes me an expert) and i'm afraid/sorry to say that it does change you a lot.
i watched A Clockwork Orange when i was 8... retrospectively that might not have been such a good thing, even though at the time i was ecstatic to see it and to have seen it :) ; my parents never really realizing that i did (too busy socializing, not that i'd ever hold it against them).
Kids (and i don't mean any disrespect by that) need time to learn stuff, they need to be loved (giving them some stuff they covet) but they also need respect (as in you need to think for them because they are not as aware as they'd like to be).
Our social ways and "moralities" are not set in stone, they are in constant evolution, things are going quicker and start earlier and earlier... this is not "only" a good thing... but again, caring (thinking things through before authorizing/prohibiting stuff) is the only parenting prerequisite for "doing a good job".
Plus, as a parent, you never know what you are doing (the effects of the things done here and now are felt long after...). You are hoping/choosing stuff that seems right and that mostly means (from my pov) that you try to make the less mistakes possible :)
Did I not know that?. Oh dear..(Sarcasm)
The point of the thread seemingly ended at his second post. Hence I freely post as I see fit. Dont be so naive, and dont get into questioning my reasons.
Wow such a great mod. Derailing a thread and not keeping them in order! I salute you.
Edit: Sorry to be such a jerk. But it frustrates me when people say Kids are a nightmare. They really aren't all of us were one at a time. You just have to love them and if you teach them correctly they won't be nightmares. Kids are a real treasure to have. Not a nightmare.
Yeah they have there ups and downs, but so do adults, teenagers and elderly too. Parents are the ones that make kids a nightmare.
seriously? ...... Dont you peole have maps to make?? or is complaining the NEXT BIG THING!
im finding this all so funny with evan the * kids* post .... are any of you actually over 18/21^ years of age? Honestly^ lol ( you can lie i dont care) LMAO!!!!
\
EDIT: i need help on a new map . its call .* IM A BLEEP * . you join , and bitch about WHAT EVER YOU WANT!!
what are you complaining about? your parents not allowing or the other girls parents allowing it?
Nightmare on elm street is rated 17, wouldn't allow my 10 year old daughter to watch it
but as we are in germany, naked people wouldn't be a problem or harm at all. but gore at this age? doubt its good
i think he was complaining about the friend's parents allowing it...
Sorry, really bored with reading "Osama" every time i log on :)
i understand/don't mind the back and forth aggro ..
however i wish people discussed stuff more, "parenting" and "kids fitting in in an adult oriented world" are both great subjects...
I don't know, when I was in second grade I was dropping F-bombs and ripping spinal cords in Mortal Kombat. The perception of children, and the media's effect on them is seriously overblown if you ask me.

I see a difference in games and movies.
Movies lack the interactivity, so they keep you busy with other things. One of them being psyching you out totally.
I'm usually not a friend of age restrictions either. All my life I've watched/played/read things that weren't adviced for my age and it didn't hurt me.
If the girls are strong and steady in mind I guess it won't hurt them to see NoES, but a lot of 10 year-olds will probably get nightmares from that.
In the end it should be their parents who decide if the kids are already mature enough or not.

Well... I'm stupid now. Mom just said that sister's friend was a bit confused and wrong title. O well but still true for some adults.
Who would want to be a dad?. Kids are a nightmare.

You must of been a nightmare yourself then? That wasn't the point of this thread...
