I'm a noobish artist, regular reader of this forum but I didn't have the guts to post until now. Don't ask don't tell.
Anyway, I'm pretty amazed with your communnity, and your interest in modding SC. I'm very fond of this franchise, since the BW days, but also a fan of Warcraft RTS games and the first Diablo ones. I've always been interested in creating custom stuff, I did my things in the SC1 and WCIII days, screwing around with the editor. I think I don't have the skills of the average user around here, but I don't lack of learning will.
Some projects got my attention: SC Mass Recall (impressed with the great quality of it), the WC1,2,3, and WoW remakes (very interested in see them playable) and many others. I'm still trying to get how big this community is.
I want to help in anything I can, I have some experience in localization and a little in modelling and texturing. Can you tell me the right way to go?
@XibadivS: Go Hi! Welcome to mapster. I'm sure soon enough you will find yourself making part of a team, or somehow working on a project. The guys around here are always in need of help.
I'm also curious about your texturing skills. Can you show us any of your work?
Like I said in the intro, I'm stil a noob in texturing (the first way to learn is beeing sincere). I know the process, I've done very basic texturing but I still need to learn. Let's say I don't have any work to show yet, but I expected that beeing around here could be helpful to me and that some of you may guide me in the right way.
I've done a little modelling though. Basically guns and objects, nothing organic.
I'm interested in starting with some team. The first thing that got my attention is the SC1 remake. Since I'm spanish, maybe I could help the team to localizate it.
Im working on a coop campaign. If you want to help out there are many little tasks that needs to be done.
Examples of tasks:
Designing attack wave compositions (by testing different integer parameters to a function I made)
Placing doodads and paint terrain
Write story dialog
Coming up with interesting behaviours that the attack waves should have (double speed, cloak, explosion on death etc.)
Draw loadscreen graphics. I have a template which you can use.
The project is separated into a AI mod (attack wave behaviour), a story mod (dialog), Acheivments mod and Core Gameplay mod. Then you would have maps that use these mods.
Here is some info about the core mod: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/7923993763
You can try it on the european servers its called HercMerc there.
The other mods are not published yet, but works fine.
Thanks for the offer Monkalizer, I've sent you a PM.
Anyway, about the SC Mass Recall localization. Should I PM the team? I don't want to bother anyone, but the way I felt playing that campaing... It makes me in debt with them and that I must help someway.
BTW SoulFilcher, sorry that I can't provide you with proof of my almost-non-existant texture skills. Why are you interested?
@XibadivS: Go PM them, don't be afraid to offer some help. In my opinion more maps should care about localization. If you ever play SC Expanded and want to help with Spanish I'd love the help ;-)
Ohhh don't worry, I was just curious, I'm always curious about art, and possible model re-textures.
Welcome to SC2Mapster!
As a welcome gift, I hereby present you with the permission to buy us all a round of drinks!
Most teams working on big projects will usually take the most experienced person they can find, so I wouldn't get my hopes too high that the SCU crew or anyone like that will add you to their team (A position would have to be freed up in the first place), but newer people like yourself (Or people with less ambitious projects) will generally not have too high requirements :) (Well, Monkalizer just posted offering you a spot ;) )
You can always start your own team and project though :p
Modelling may be a good area to "specialise" in though - there aren't that many modelers around in the SC2 mapping scene, so they're always useful ;)
Anyways, if Monkalizers offer isnt enough for you, keep an eye on the team recruitment forum, and perhaps do some tutorials here and there to expand your knowledge of the editor. (Hero creation tutorials are pretty good ways to learn stuff about the Data Editor - Feel free to skip the Veterancy and Attributes parts though, those are used pretty much only for levelable heroes and nothing else. Requirements, items, abilities, actors, units and other stuff those tutorials walk you through are areas that are frequently used though)
4 posts since I started writing this. I guess going to the bathroom and making some tea in the meantime didn't help. Anyway, GL HF! If you need help with the data editor, feel free to PM DrSuperEvil or me.
Something seems fishy, :), but if you really want to help Write up tutorials post them in the tutorials section and someone will update the wiki. or you can update it.

Omg really I'm new here and I have to pay the round? Haha, I will be glad to do it. P2P beers or TCP/IP Vodka? :)
Thanks for your advice, like I said at the beginning I knew the forums and I've been around here for some time, but never got into joining any team. I knew the site for its tutorials, but seeing the things I've seen this recent days, I have to do a little more.
I've contacted Monkalizer now, I think for starting its enough :) , but I'll check the tutorial sections from time to time. I think I need it. He seems patient though, so, I think I could be of help.
If I need something specific about the Data editor, I will contact you. ^^
Welcome to Mapster! I think pretty much everything has been said, but I could add this: if you are a fan of reading, roleplaying and/or maybe some creative writing, be sure to check out the forum RPG we've got going to see if it catches your interest.
Well be never afraid. We don't bite. Just PM here and there people. we are just cool dudes. Even if you have worser English for example, no one will said ''learn English'' My English was one of the worst in the history of mapster. But after complete a few trainings my English was improved.
But if you want to learn something in the editor itself you could load campaigns.
Look if you open the editor for the first time you think OMG HELL HELP ! (that was my first reaction but i always had the skills of the sc 1 editor) But if you load campaign maps and than open for example the last wol mission. Than you start to change small things. Like some attack waves or Some ability's ect. Than you can go further in it. (note if you change things in missions than all text will go in a dump code (like paran/value 235fh234)
With these missions i have learns lots of things. before i start to create my first mod.
Welcome to the community, the community is niche and its also a good healthy size though.
Modellers are always in need, take a peak at the artist tavern to see some of the current works. Since your limited in the amazing int of work you do you might want to take a peak at Team Recruitment otherwise you can always learn to trigger and use the new data module.

Artist Tavern sounds like your area but you could always add to the wiki if you can/are interested.
If you ever want training on other editor areas feel free to ask.
