I stopped playing SC2, about a month or two ago. I know that Blizzcon happened. Videos look very bad as usual and Blizz just doesn't seem good anymore to the point its disgusting. But, couldn't find anything about mapping other than marketplace is coming or something.
Does Blizz have any intentions of supporting mappers so we can play our maps with the community? I looked @ the popularity list and its still the same boring maps other than 1 from beta a year ago. Worst creative cockblock I've ever experienced. Is it going to change? Any word on this?
1. Can we for heavens sake stop whining about the popularity system? Sure, it's not all roses, but just because your map isn't on top it doesn't mean that Blizzard is terrible, non-supportive and 'ruining the game'.
2. Blizzcon hasn't happened yet. It's going to happen. The stuff you've been looking at is last year's Blizzcon.
3. Blizz has already admitted that that panel wasn't something to be taken seriously in the sense that you should expect any awesome info or revolutionary revelations in it.
4. I'm not sure what popularity list you're looking at, but it has definitely changed from my screen.
5. At the HOTS preview, Blizzard said they were planning to do the whole map marketplace thing with HOTS. No details revealed yet, but we got a fairly definitive answer that something will happen with HOTS' release.
Wait, so the whole "Doubling the space we are allowed to use on Blizzard's servers for our maps" thing is just a myth?? Oh, okay. Just checking. You sir are a selfish prick. I mean Blizzard should model their editor off of the amazing halo forge! In other words, you sir do not know what you are talking about, and therefore are a dumbas*.
Ehh hemm, rage over. Seriously though, stop bitc*ing. Blizzard is doing what they can to improve the system. Things can't just be fixed immediately. I mean I sort of get it. If they had an expansion and a totally new game they were working on, then it would be okay, but because they do... oh wait. Hmmmm...
I am just going ahead and assuming that this is a troll post, and that I am just a sucker being, well, sucked in. If not, face-palm. Actually no, face-wall. Actually no, face-chainsaw.
I know that Blizzcon happened. Videos look very bad as usual and Blizz just doesn't seem good anymore to the point its disgusting.
Yeah, that blizzcon was pretty disgusting. Oh wait. It hasn't happened yet. And blizzard's game as amazing. They are all incredibly polished and regularly score perfect ratings from IGN, gamespot, etc.. I would not refer to them as disgusting.

Of course. They added a search bar. If your map is actually decent, players can simply type in the name and find it instantly. They also added a fun or not mode that effects the up and coming list to help new map get out there. There have been constant patches and updates, and more are planned in the future. You can play any map with any member of the community.

They have changed. But who cares what's on top. You just type in the name of the game you want and play it....
So far, I've seen that people who complain about popularity are people who can't make a decent & enjoyable map. Because if you have a fun map, you post it here, we put it on the news. The site gets 20,000 viewers daily, on average. Those twenty thousand people will see your amazing map on the news, and will proceed to play it via the handy search bar in battle net.

Sorry, I thought it happened, as you can tell I've been out of the loop for quite some time. No need to get hostile.

Of course, a search bar... that is not functionality to play maps with the community. And, from what I have seen there has been no game changing patches other than fixes from updating my SC2.

I have never been able to play a game with other random players of the community using the search bar...

I just checked the view count of the first video posted on the main page. 469 views.
Second video 1,800..
You're making up crap that isn't true.
I would like to thank you though for answering me more directly, other than the bullshitting and insulting me that I couldn't make a decent map. Well, if I could of got players to even play that map in the first place to decide if it was good or not, then I would agree with you. Thank you for your post though. It did answer alot. Nothing has truly changed, or ever will change, very typical of Blizzard, and nothing more than I expected myself. I don't know why I made this post, if I already knew that. I guess somewhere hope existed and took over for a second.
Well hits and views are very much different for a front page site. (So 20k is normal, no need for hat-eating around here) However, views on youtube pretty much confirm the number that actually view the front page each day.
In any market, you have to cater to your audience. BNET is no different if you want to rise in the popularity list. The main thing to keep in mind is having a low learning curve.
That was not a number I just pulled out the air. It was somewhere in the staff forums (although it could have been an old statistic). But 20K views is not the same as 20k viewers. My zergling burgers video got 3000 hits when it was newsed. Thats 3000 people that saw my map. Say only a third of them try it out. Thats still 1000 people. If the map is fun to play, you can continue advertising and updating and people will continue to play it. I've played a lot of maps via the search bar with other people that joined themselves (without me inviting them).
But you can't say nothing has changed. They are working on it. Sure, its not their top priority by any means. But there have been improvements, slowly but surely. With the marketplace on the way, there will most likely be additional improvements. They added Fun or Not as well as Up and Coming to help the problem. That, at the very least, shows they are working on it.
Sorry I came off a bit angry in that last post. There's just been a ton of people complaining about the popularity system and I've got fed up with it. Speaking of people trying to get maps popular, do you have a map that you are trying to get popular or something?
I don't know about EU, but on the US servers, things HAVE changed. Have you considered that Desert Strike IS fun? Have you considered that Marine Area IS fun? Have you considered that these games have a community, a strategy, and are well known? In real games, forgetting Blizzard entirely, I will turn to COD. If a company released a game, similar to COD, that is much better, is everyone going to stop playing COD? No. Should everyone? Probably, but that is not reality.
PS3>XBOX, correct? Free live, better graphics, better system, plays Blue-Ray, whatever. XBOX (Referring to 360) came out first, so a bunch of people bought it. It got a large community. Shortly after, PS3 came out. Lots of people were already sucked into the XBOX, so they didn't even bother trying it.
A lot of the faults of the popular games has been put on Blizzard, but honestly, it is a fact of life, that if a game comes out first, it will stay popular for a while. Don't forget that although a year may seem like a long time, all in all, it really isn't.
If it is true that all these amazing games are coming out, then yes, it will change, but it will take time. I mean just look at Mafia. That game rose to the top pretty quick, if you ask me.
If the BNET community was the SC2Mapster community, the popular games would be different. Unfortunately, it is not. It has something that Blizzard has realized, and although they may not be dealing with it in a way we want, I think that they are dealing with it in a way that, in the long term, benefits everyone. How are we to know how hard it is to revise the popularity system? We assume it is just a simple sort, but what if it is not? I don't know. Just something to think about.
As of this post, I am officially done taking sides on this matter.
That was also over half a year ago when there was still somewhat of a mapping community.
I agree on that it could be misleading at first not accounting for that very fact. However as Zelda said, curse does have account on top end resource sites that monitor such hits on curse site..ect, the numbers are surprising even now.. (shocked me tbh). But yeah, I dont think videos now are getting those kind of hits.. and depends on the day the video was upload...ect (Site is Very slow on some days/times..ect)

Yes, the marketplace is coming around the time of Heart of the Swarm. We learned that from a developer preview that Sixen got to go to.
Of course. They added a search bar. If your map is actually decent, players can simply type in the name and find it instantly. They also added a fun or not mode that effects the up and coming list to help new map get out there. There have been constant patches and updates, and more are planned in the future. I like the site and all, but I'd eat my hat if that were true.
Not views, but hits, probably. I have no doubt about that number. SC2Mapster belongs to Curse Network and get linked down there (scroll to the bottom)
To estimate, each videos on front page get about 2-10k views, depends on the contents
Hi.
Also I'd eat my hat if a front page feature got more than 1k "real" views.
My destructible islands got 27k views from the embed video (on this site) the day it was news'd so...
and statistic sites dont lie on the numbers.
