So...the website discussion seems dead and fruitless, but...
How do you add a current event?
Can I add one?
What's the policy on current events?
Anyone have ideas for current events like ones outside of the modding community, e.g. Blizzcon? Game release dates? New expansion for Diablo, Beta for heroes of the storm???
Just trying to spice up the site. I hate looking at 2011 events.
Only mods can change it. I agree that something new needs to be there. Maybe recently featured maps or (undocumented) patch notes. But the 2011 event really needs to be removed.
As I said in the other thread: all mods can edit it, but most of us are reluctant to do so because screwing up just one symbol in the code messes up the entire frontpage. It's happened before. I'd love to update the window but I'm not going to burn my fingers on that again.

That seems like a very inefficient system...Is that just Curse to blame or the people that wrote the page? =p
I'm far from a programmer, but it makes sense: the Current Events window is coded as being a part of the entire frontpage. If there's weird code in there the system doesn't know how to load it and everything goes to shit. I've mainly had this happen before when using specific symbols such as : or ' because these symbols have a meaning in the code and, when used improperly in text strings, cause the code to throw up all over itself. No matter how solid the code of the main page is, if a javascript window within it tries to load something that makes no sense then everything can go haywire. For as far as my code knowledge goes, compare it to accidentally breaking the front window of a car; the engine will still work, but you still won't be able to drive anywhere.
In reality most mods like me shouldn't be able to edit such sensitive code to begin with (I reckon) and this is why we barely ever touch it. It's just that we do have the option and that when done right (i.e.: I know the trick I need to perform to update the WTE on the main page) it can be useful at times.

Click 'Announcement Management' to drop down the menu and then click 'Edit announcement'. Doing so takes me here. You're telling me this doesn't work for you? I'm guessing this could either be because you joined the mod team relatively late and this was set up back in the day (iirc), or I must be some exception (though I'm relatively sure that both Zeldarules28 and TheAlmaity can both edit the announcements).

Can we just edit the other events with your trick?
I could find some stuff to change it to for you.
We can?

On the right.
How? It will not allow me to alter anything.

Nope, apparently my privilege level restricts me to the forums, haha.

Just says forbidden and "You don't have the permission to access the requested resource. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server."
All I got under announcement management is Activity Log.

Alright, in that case I guess I'm an exception. That doesn't make altering it any easier.

For the community Mozared!! Risk it all and change the WDE to 2014!! Then we are 2/5 of the way into 2014!!
Not all mods were given news access after they split that privilege out a year or two ago, I suppose that counts for edits too.
That explains why I could not alter the titles of some things like teams.
