What i've found is that the game is WAY to similar to the wc3 one, and with that I didn't get any new experience out of it, just felt EXACTLY the same with new names and a couple new effects. Dunno if that's how other people felt, but thats pretty much the reason i've played it 5 times total vs the hundreds of times I played it in WC3.
I was expecting already excuses for it to drop from the top like that.
Karawasa might be experiencing now what I had to experience twice:
- Map is popular: Almost all the comments are about how awesome the map is.
- Map is not popular anymore: Almost all comments suddenly change to "there's something wrong in the map."
This is mostly due to people's perception. The majority of players tend to ignore flaws when the map is popular while they force their eyes to see flaws when the map isn't popular anymore.
We are working on this. Mainly adding a more direct and noticeable PvP component along with bank usage. I always planned this but had expected the PvE component (which is really what most public players are getting) to last longer than it did.
The initial release was meant to be similar to WC3 but updated for SC2. Though, I don't think that is the reason for this. I'd say more SC2 players have not played WC3 than have played it. The fact is that BNET audience wants PvP and wants bank usage. That is why Squadron is so far ahead.
So to answer your question, I don't think so. Definitely have some cool stuff ahead that will shake things up.
And how do you plan on advertising those changes to the thousands of players that do not read forums? They are too much and any map to be popular depend on those kids.
Part of the hope is to reverse the trend with the people still playing. There is no direct way of advertising to the BNET kiddies but if the players themselves reverse the direction we will be fine. The changes will be more than noticeable enough that anyone trying them would figure it out right away.

Just remember that is always harder for a map to climb twice the popularity list. Nexus Word Wars was also top 1 in a day. But after 2 weeks removed, it did not climbed the list again.

Imo its not lack of new features but the high qualty of many other maps. I think in sc2 there are a lot more high quality maps compared to wc3. Elemental TD is hq map but in sc2 there is much more you can creat and experience, thanks to the insanely power editor.

Yeah I just realized that I played Marine Arena one or 2 times when it was new (which is pretty long ago now) and didn't like it. Just recently I've given it another try. But I still don't like it. Why would I try it again?
The War3 editor was great for its time. Most of us were 12 or 13 when we made maps in WC3. The WC3 editor was great for people of that age to make games that other players would enjoy.
I don't think Blizzard has realized this. They don't realize many of the people interested in making maps now are the same from WC3. But we're not 12 or 13 anymore. I'm 22. I think I was either 12 or 13 when I got WC3.
The capabilities of Battle.net and the editor should have aged with its audience. Instead, they just decided to target the same people they did with WC3. That's why they aren't listening to us. There was so much potential for the SC2 editor to be used to create full, real games completely unrelated to SC2. They might have assumed it was pointless to put that much effort into developing the editor, but they were wrong - it's not pointless, because the dedicated users of the WC3 editor have aged since then. And they're much more mature and intelligent.
Blizzard seriously screwed up. Instead of a system capable of creating and distributing high quality full games, we have a system for creating and distributing stupid little mini games.

I'm the first one to rant about the popularity system, but now you're really overanalyzing things.
Its probly a pain in the ass to climb back up once you have dropped. I feel like smashcraft had same experience. It was semi popular at launch, but now I dont bother checking it out even with new heroes since...I dunno...I feel like iv seen what it has to offer even though it was a fun game for a long time :/
anyway TDs usually arent meant to last for ages...they just dont offer that much.
In EU it was top with 10k pop and now its the 8th with 3k popularity.
I think it will end on page 2 or 3 as a constant. But as it said before after that you cant go on higher page, for that you have to change the map's name:D
I just realized now that Element TD dropped to half of page 2 with only 6% of Squadron TD's popularity. O.o
11 months of work to be played only for a few weeks. I feel Karawasa's pain right now. =/

Ele TD lacks hooks, sense of progression and every game is the same. Solve these 3 issues and it'll rise.
