If Heart of the Swarm came out and had gotten rid of the popularity system, restoring the greatness of the WC3 map list, how much would you be willing to pay for the expansion?
I'm with you on this one. If Blizzard came out with HOTS and the only way you can get the "updated" popularity system and the Marketplace was by buying it, I would pay $100-$150 for it.
Your poll question is different from your OP question, but to answer to the poll question (which is what I voted for): 20-40 dollars, maybe less. I personally don't care too much about the pop system. Sure, a completely different system would work, but with some improvements this can work fairly well.
He was referring to how much you would pay for the expansion WITH the "new" popularity system, not just the popularity system. You are saying you would only pay 20-40 dollars for HOTS? O.o
EDIT: I just changed my vote to over 9000, cuz I just got the joke :)
Heart of the swam should be like 45 dollars or something...not full price. But I'm fine with the system as a player. As a mapmaker, I might be willing to pay...if I actually published any of them ;)

That's actually a swell topic.. how much will hots cost? What should it cost (in this day and age? in this marketplace? with an actwithouvision's marketing strategy) ?
i'm really interested to see if they will really do anything "interesting"... For example, they did at one point say that they might develop a second ladder.. (allowing wol players to not "have to" buy the extension") ... i wonder if their "floating ideas" (in this case, more than 2 years before the date (?)) is going to end up somewhat blowing up in their face? :-(
There will be a second ladder conundrum, euhhh sorry "placement matches pudding", there will be (http://forums.sc2mapster.com/general/general-chat/23174-how-was-the-custom-map-scene-at-this-point-in-wc3/?page=4#p79 (ty again, and yes birds'of a feather should flock together :) ) a blur the dots and screw the t's and cross the i's fiasco marketing strategy ... all the awesome mods will have to be redone... all the mapmakers will tear their hairs by the root.. blablabla f..ken bla...
just cause there is lov to consider...
Personally, i'm real happy/thankful to have found mapster, cause i probably will surf "invested" mapmaker's posts for a long while before i buy it... because me needs my precious.. (who doesn't?) but i will feel less screwed by "scourge the petty" because i will feel less alone getting screwed (story of most marketplaces nowadays #sigh#...
i'm a grown up and i will still play along (pay through the nose while maybe i shouldn't), but i already really feel bad/downed about it...
The only thing i hope is that they realize that crossrealm publishing would give them less bandwidth usage.. (since very few of us mapmakers actually fell for the cheery cheesy "buy 4/5 accounts to publish your "art" worldwide" bid...) .. for a greater play ratio all around.
i really wonder how some people justify this (people responsible for these counterproductive and petty decisions) .. i mean while keeping a straight face, or while they look in the mirror...?
To the point, i bet lots will cost the same as wol and that (like wol) they don't intend for any price drop.. but they will recant (you can fool some of the people some of the time, but never all the people all of the time) .. simply put the "relative" plummeting of sales (when compared to wol of course) will have presidents firing heads of strategy (with golden parachutes attached)..
Sorry for cynicism rant, i'll stop being a downer, so:
<3 ed blizz, they really know what's what and we should be thankful and use all our might to help them through their difficult times ahead in this brutal and unforgiving world (euuhhh... i think i might have gone overboard (don't look for me) , this might come out as satire .. well, it was, ;,^( )

No. Re-read my post. I'm saying his poll question ("How much would you be willing to pay to get rid of the popularity system?") is different from the question in his OP ("How much would you pay for HOTS if it came with a new popularity system?"). My answer is, like mentioned, to his poll question. The second one is a bit of an oddball question (is that HotS fee plus extra for pop system? because else I'd just pay the normal HOTS price?), hence why I didn't answer it at all.
If Heart of the Swarm came out and had gotten rid of the popularity system, restoring the greatness of the WC3 map list, how much would you be willing to pay for the expansion? I'm definitely somewhere between $100-150.
Ahaha...Really?
I honestly would not buy HoTS(with or without it ridding the popularity system) if I was not FORCED to(aka publish maps). The entire campaign plot/lore is complete garbage compared to the first game.
Now in HoTS we have Brood War all over again(but with green banelings, and half zerglings(splinterlings))... Kerrigan trying to regain control over the Zerg. Fail.
I might be going off-topic though, So to answer your question, No I would not.
I would pay 0$ to get rid of the pop system, I don't dislike it, it just need some additional improvements, like sorting by number of bookmarks.
Don't know why you want a map list where everybody can create games with custom names and empty lobbies. If I want to play with randoms, i just click on my fav map. If I want to play with friends, i create a lobby and invite them.
Customers shouldn't be the ones to pay for what was broken in the first place, and having to pay to revert to a system that is several years old is simply ridiculous.
Of course I'd buy the expansion, but that's only for the assets / campaign.

i love the bookmarks :)
only you also have to teach that to the players (so its a bit like going back to square one ;) )
ps: bookmarks: option that allows the player to quickly join his favorite mods by "tagging" them ... the players that have tagged a mod make for the number advertised on the list (for instance jade's "photon cycles" has around 3000 while the mod is still on page 3)
Each player had to take the time to do it, which means he cares about this game
.. and then said player can join or rejoin a game as fast as bnety possible
(well it sometimes bugs if you clik frantically and you log on to blizzs "whatnot list" on (for me for sure, but i believe for everyone)
auir chef then it was elements td and now its desert strike :) )

I'm fine with the pop system, it doesn't give me nightmares. Leave there if you wish.
BUT give me a W3 list I can use instead.
Where's the "zero" option?
