we may need to guide people to the better maps of the arcade buried under the heaping amounts of unfinished, abandoned, or just not all that greats maps haha.
That was a pretty cool video, should bring in more people to the Arcade, I guess. I wish he showcased different maps and mods though, there's better ones he could've picked. I also didn't really like how almost half the video was a Starbow match, while the rest of the maps got only 5~ mins of showtime. :X
As someone adamantly defensive of creators and their ability to get their content to the masses without massive greedy companies getting in the way, TB, I'm very surprised you're being so positive towards the blizzard arcade. But hey I can understand how having close ties can cloud one's judgement.
I know this is fan boy territory, but this is the truth: Blizzard has shat all over the map making community and destroyed their custom game scene for reasons ranging from destructive predatory ownership of their properties, and most importantly just an overall indifference for all content outside of their own. It appears someone high on the food chain woke up recently and decided, "Hmmm, lets stop shitting in our fans mouths today and make some sappy bullshit videos depicting how much we care about them and maybe we can score some free content and some underpriced human capital. Pull one of our tools off of reddit to make the video.".
To sum it up, they're so obsessed with sucking their own dicks, they don't realize how shit their own content has been and how destructive their indifference to the custom game scene is. I invite all of you to play Left 2 Die, star jeweled and dear lord Auir Chef. I know most gamers don't "get" the games industry, and to be fair it's shrouded in secrecy and there's no reason to try to understand it. Ignorance is bliss and all. But it's pretty obvious the starcraft team are a group of people of moderate talent who really could give a shit if the game exceeds any sorts of expectations. Why create an acceptable custom game scene if all you need to do to keep your job is smile and nod and create a semi passable game?
The real story here happened years ago, when there were many talented custom game makers interested in blizzard's empty promises to make this a worthwhile scene. They squandered that... HARD. And no one noticed.
Now they're doing this sub par shit? Too little too late. SC2 will and will always remain a niche title unless we hear a major news story about a major restructuring on the starcraft 2 dev team. I suppose decent things can be done in the starcraft 2 arcade... but if you're a competent developer with half a brain, you'll pursue opportunities elsewhere.
edit: saying what needs to be said whether any of you tool mother fuckers want me to say it or not.

That's fine, but if you could do that without randomly insulting everyone, that'd be great.
I think few people would fully disagree with you, to be honest. I wouldn't call L2D, Starjeweled or Aiur Chef 'semi passable games' at all - for custom maps, they are great. Aside from that, everybody here remembers what happened years ago and to say 'no one noticed' is to come across oblivious yourself.
Your point is quite valid, just... don't be such an e-thug about it.
Well this is just alot of bullshit. The Arcade is a great platform now if you have the right expectations. If you want to make a living creating games, create your own game, dont make mods. If you arent talented enough for that, fuck off.
I am a project manager by day, hobbyist creative person by night - I've written a story and am bringing it to life through the Galaxy Editor. It's slow going having to watch a tutorial for every new thing I want to do, but it's coming together!
This is the first "major" modding plunge I've taken, and I'm impressed with the level of quality one can create with free tools. I don't have a bias to what was before, so I think this is pretty fantastic...
No way! Arcade platform stinks. Try this, this site features many many pretty awesome maps on front page. Try playing any of them, if they aren't featured, you will be sitting in an empty lobby for a very long time. This is in contrast with b.net 1.0 where people come flooding in especially if its new and unknown. If its a bad map, it'll get avoided. But it has to be a known bad map to be avoided.
Well, at least TB is trying to get people to care more about arcade.

Weird, I can get my maps played whenever I want. Maybe the maps you want to play just really suck - or you arent capable of waiting for 5 minutes to get a full lobby.
You know, 5 minutes for a map that's supposedly 'featured by a web page' is a very long time. This gets even worse for unknown maps - like new maps no one ever heard of. You can't get anybody to join if its a new and unknown map. I tried, I've just made a sideways platformer map. I open it to test, and 1 or 2 people would come and go, but never ever got a full lobby. Every once awhile, 5 or 6 would join at once, but its so rare and only happened once. So I have dropped my platformer project...(there's a video of it somewhere for those who seen it)... though it was fun when I did get that 6 player game going.
I tried many maps here, I do leave after 2-5 minutes if no one joins. I am not going to sit in a lobby for 5-10 minutes, that's completely dumb. Arcade needs lots fixing, anyone who think it works...hehe, probably that's why arcade still sucks, blizzard probably also believe it 'works'.

I challenge you to play your platformer map on WC3 and get better results. Chances are noone will join, ever, because the match is on the front page of newly hosted maps for 10 seconds and then gets buried forever, impossible for anyone to find. My maps are also unknown and I can get players for them just fine. Bigger maps that require 6 to 12 people also always need atleast 5 minutes to fill up, no matter how popular. If you cant have fun with the Arcade, chances are the faults on you.
Why insult everyone at Sc2Mapster? Seems like a low blow to the community. Did someone(s) here insult you in the past? I sorta was interested in your opinion, but the negativity is just uncalled for. In the video, TB seemed critical of a lot of Blizzards decisions in the past, even some echoed in the posts here, but is interested in the possibilities of the future. I guess you just wanted to get a rise out of us. Well done, I guess.
I'm pretty new to this place, but I would disagree that this is a fan boy website. In fact, the criticism of Blizzard is pretty acute here. I've noticed folks being critical of everything from the Arcade set up, the retcons in SC2, gameplay...pretty much everything. However, I think most people here really enjoy playing SC and enjoy the "niche" scene that goes along with it. I only recently discovered he free tools that come along with the game and I think they are pretty fantastic in my opinion. I only paid $40 for this whole thing and I believe it has been a really good deal. Anyways, 15ish years for a video game is a pretty good run imo. Hopefully, it will be another 15 years!
Treysent said something about adding "Warcraft 3 assets" (as opposed to "Warcraft 3 heroes"). Might still mean only WC3 heroes, but anyway, WC3 assets would catapult SC2 out of the niche and open the game up to the vast WarCraft fanbase.
Blizzard have made a lot of right choices with the arcade lately. I also don't think it's too late - it still takes mere seconds to get a full lobby, and the engine itself has matured a lot since release.
You may find some of your map talked about in the video:)
Nice to see that the Arcade seems to get some exposure. :)
Edit: I dislike that he showed so much Starbow though. Its not really an Arcade game but a melee (extention) mod.
Nice to see him owning at Card Shuffle. I was surprised how fast he picked everything up.
Him doing a video on the Arcade will definately give the Arcade alot of traffic... nice. I like where this is going.

He probably focused on mods that he is comfortable with, rather than showing off mods that he's never played before.
Also, Starbow is hot right now, so it makes a lot of sense that it got a lot of screen time.

Ye I rly like that blizzard and the community is putting some more effort in to the arcade. There are tons of fun games out there still unexposed.
I understand why some people are negative, but atleast Blizz are trying. Some positivity would be more useful to everyone.
