I entered the editor with Windows 7 x64 as until days ago I was with Vista x32 and when I try to export a file DDS M3 OGG or any, the file in the export Save As appears as .dds..* .m3..* .ogg..* and if I rename it to .dds it says invalid file name. I cant export anything from the Data editor as I get files with asterisk. Does anyone know why this is happening how to fix? It didnt happen on Vista 32bit and my system is fully compatible with x64 bit Win7
Sounds like yet another galaxyedit bug. You could try reinstalling starcraft 2, or else just use MPQ exporting, e.g. http://www.galaxywiki.net/MPQ_Exporting
I have the same issue from time to time; try exporting from a different location.
Console -> browse, data or trigger editor fields, which take your needed files or the previewer, one of them usually works.
JackRCDF I've done a clean SC2 install on clean Windows installation, im sure there is no need to reinstall.
For DDS there is a simple way - rightclick on the DDS in the tree and 'View File' it shows the entire image on a large window, then you can right click on the image and it gives you to save the image as .TGA without any '..*' appearing in the save menu. I also checked I save WAV files without any asterisks, the asterisk appears for M3 (i think M3 exports correctly from the previewer), OGG and DDS, files i.e m3..* dds..* ogg..*
I has the same issue several days ago (when i exported cliff models). The way to do it is to save it as .mdx, .mdl, .blp or something (from sc3 extensions)... it automagically works when you just rename the file in filesystem :P
^ lol that does work. Thanks. But it's strange though. I deleted all partitions on my HDD prior to the clean WIn7 install and clean SC2 install and I never installed any War3 programs or war3 to get that so the windows registry is impossible to contain any war3 files. Still, that worked.
Basically since TGA and WAV files in the editor can be exported withotu a problem, putting those as an extention works when attempting to export DDS or OGG
Just because War3 is a well known Blizzard's game with very good editor, what is probably a base for sc2editor. They did not change allowed extensions. Lame :P TGA and WAV are in war3 too ;P
Thanks but I found another solution. This is a system issue. If the extentions DDS OGG are associated with some program you use, they will be also recognized by the editor when you export. I just fixed the issue with OGG by making OGG files to be opened by Audacity. As soon as I associated it, now OGG files export without ..* sucessfully. For DDS that I open with gimp it still hasn't recognized but if I play a little more, it may eventuall recognize it too.
...It just gave me a bunch of files with no extension :(
Theres also some with .version and .sc2components and .galaxy and .xml, but those stil cant be opened except the .xmls

Its normally easier to save as an sc2 components folder and then just browse the imported data in windows explorer.

File -> Save as -> Pick SC2Components in the file format dropdown box.
