As you may have noted, our community member Telthalion has recently posted up three home-made custom tilesets that all have a desert-y feeling to them. In order to see what can be done with some of these custom tilesets, this weeks assignment is to make a "Telthalian Desert". What does this mean? Simple - you grab either his Zion, Gehenna or Sirocco tileset and make a terrain with any of those three. If you're unsure about how to add them to your map, look here.
Note: because it took me so long to update this ('logistical' problems), I'll extend this one a week, meaning it'll last until the 3d of September rather than the 27th of August.
Hope you guys can turn this into something cool! :)
This is great, the first thing that comes to my mind is that you should modify your lake into a dinosaur footprint if you know what I mean? Since your bones are so huge, this means something big walked there and could have left behind some prints on the ground. Keep the same size however.
Also I feel like the lightning is not the best. I wonder if you could go more for a super sunny day where everything is dry except the "lake", or make do a night vision too? Anyway, when looking at the first picture for example, the light comes from some weird angle. The back of the doodads are too bright, they should be in the shadow...
Ok. Obviously this is not finished (because of MATH MATH MATH) but here is a nice post-apocalyptic map based off of Terry Brooks' novel Armageddon's Children.
First series of pictures- a good chunk of the last of humanity (8-12/7000) desperately tries to defend themselves against the once-men and their demon masters.
Second series of pictures- another good chunk is supposedly safe within the walls of Seneca Fields Compound, and they noncombatants gather together to hear an inspiring speech (probably five minutes before they die).
Last picture- because the rich compound people have technology that can purify and gather water.
EDIT: actually, it's not even polished, as you can see. Some of the once-men are facing away from the compound, and the terrain is pretty basic.
We feel the try, the end, the fire, the scary deamons... but this is like the content of you message, you need the container, the atmosphere, the lightning, we need to feel this is your last hour... maybe minutes...
So ya, it's a good start, you got what you want to speak of, now you have to add a couple things around to make everything slightly more realistic, more dark, gore, whatever atmosphere you want to create. With the campaign dependency activated like you have, you have access to a couple more doodads, you can do something really nice.
Well, I think what you need here is simply more time to spend on this. I'm pretty sure you can do what you want or close to.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #94
Hello again people!

Fun for the whole family!
That feels obscenely much like the Lion King.

I love that :D
I think I saw it once. When I was like 6. I don't remember enough about it to comment.

Well, great job.

Thanks, but I'm in Oregon now and away from any keyboard that does SC2. Will try later, obviously.
