Alright, after so much oddness and abstractness, this week something that is both plain and simple and ties into my terraining tuesday!
Weekly Terraining Exercise #34
This week's theme will be Char. I got the request by Fulla to do my Terraining Tuesday about 'lava' as a general theme, and ended up making a Char-based map about it. What I want you folks to do is create a cool terrain based on the Char tileset that incorporates lava in some way. You're completely free for the rest. Whether you make it Zerg-based, go rock-heavy or do something different is all up to you, as long as the map's a lava map on Char.
If you're unsure where to start, be sure to tune in to my Terraining Tuesday tomorrow (in case you didn't catch it, look here for details on Sc2Streamster and Terraining Tuesdays), where I'll go in-depth in regards to how the Char tileset works.
This is the first time I've done this... Were we supposed to make an entire map? I didn't really have to the time or will to do that, but I did make this.
It's an abandoned Terran research station on Char.
Interesting stuff. Nah, there is not too many pictures, I like to see in details =) I would have add some terran doodate on the middle rocks of the lava like if the base have been overflood by lava. Possibly some under it also, that we just see a little part emerging from the lava.
I guess there been some cataclysmic event that ruined it because the only bad thing i can see is that the theres some huts and stuff on the very small cliffs which seems a bit weird also that some cliffs are very straight and not like jagged.
It's a bit bland, Brood, but aside from that you've got a really decent basis. I'd say spice it up with some more doodads all over the place and you've got yourself a nifty little lavafall.
Yeah, probably that the light is too dark, that it needs some orange flying thing (dont remember the name) and wind effect, some more doodates more visible in the lava, bigger SCV could be an idea also (it looks too small and it is not making the effect I wanted that was: the SCV, alone on a little place being flood of lava really soon and its last hope get destroy into huge minerals) I should make the lava raise slowly around the SCV. And what else, some more rocks, possibly plants, and there you go with the double lava fall where a SCV is going to die!
Aint this beatiful? Anyway, you must know that I spended most of my time for this map on the falls, and not around the falls. My goal was to creat those 2 falls realistic and without visual weird things. You know, when you place any type of water, it comes in fing huge square, so making it fit at three different levels was something.... kinda easy with patience. Just use the num pad, +, - and page up, page down, and there you go placing the rocks to hide bugs.
So, basicly, my goal is achieve. If later I feel to modify it, I will, if not, just too bad, there will be another WTE. xD
I went for "as char as possible". I listened to the pod cast, and heard you mention terrain cell bridges, so I thought I'd make one that is volcanic themed. The tile set is char, most of the doodads are char, the light is the default char, really the Archon and the Bridge are the only "non-char" things here!

Good luck everyone!

Hmmmm. Good points. I'll try to update it at some point.

So here is my contribution for this week. I enough liked it to make a video so, um.... I hope you are not that SCV.
Of course the idea was not to make the CC and the SCV the center of attention, even if it is, but the double lava fall. =)
