I came to this forum today, to talk a little bit about this problem in custom maps within Starcraft 2. I was wondering why this STILL happens till this day, and why hasn't it been fixed? I remember in WARCRAFT 3 of this happening, and no SOTIS devs actually came into the thread and explained it, so its starting to REALLY BUG ME about why this still happens in today's custom DOTA maps?
I actually sent an email to Blizzard asking about this issue, hopefully they can say some stuff about it and why it hasn't been fixed, or if it was and people dont know how to.
I'm sure many of yous don't have a username there, so just incase I wanna post my thread from there to here, so people can read it and maybe explain why this still happens in TODAYS custom DOTA maps. This isn't edited at all, so dont be a troll and call my spelling errors out loud. Just trying to figure this all out.
-----------------
Title: Is there a workaround for 'not' "deselecting your hero?" once you've cast a spell on an enemy?
The one thing I hate about the SC2 map is that, sometimes when you cast a spell and left click on another hero(enemy) your then not selecting ur hero itself! Is there a work around or anything in development to fix this? I know its probably a little limited since this map is being made through the map editor. But theres gotta be someway around this? I mean, shit, have you guys even tried contacting Blizzard, and somehow explained how you should have this option within the map editor, so while playing you won't deselect your hero?
I mean, I'd admit, I'm a new player, not new to DOTA. Mainly a LOL player trying to work my way with HoN, and alittle of this, then some DOTA 1 a bit(AI only though, practicing ). But I think this will scare some people away, knowing that they always have to be pressing basically two buttons to make sure they don't die. On top of that clicking to move somewhere on the map(even if its like two feet away, anyways, im sure you get what I mean).
Anyways, as a LOL player, having this little issue, does make it a big difference, and it also brings a bunch of HATERS on me all game long. That really would scare away some newbie players(just saying, mainly for the developers, to help them bring in more players)
I was wondering what other people do to get around this problem. To be honest, it really sucks, I mean it would be cool to play dota on starcraft 2 once in awhile, just to play with maybe a better community(LOL NEVER DAT!), or just to have fun. But honestly, with DOTA games out nowadays, it couldn't defeats the point(for me at least) to even play this, when I have LOL and HoN installed on my PC.
I hope you guys understand what I'm saying, I still play to get better, but I wanna know your suggestions, and was wondering is there ANYTHING we can do to help? I mean, shit it would be cool to get a bunch of people to sign one of them forums, to explain how important this feature is to "custom sc2 maps" is.
Anyways, thanks again for reading my post! I hope some of you will post some suggestions that will help me during my gameplay! And hopefully the DEVS will figure something out in the meantime!
P.S. Since its a SC2 map(no offense, devs.) But just forget how many heroes you have! Just try to make the game more balance then any other DOTA! Oh yeah, how does "denied" works? How can I kill one of my units so the other team doesn't get the gold from killing a unit? Is there a special key I gotta press or something cause I was clicking a "creep" near their last health points and they didn't die(btw, I just started playing HoN like 2 days ago, I also dont know how to do it in that game, so you know, to the cocky people:lol: )
Thanks,
Progz!

I hope some "PRO" sc2 mappers can actually comment on this one. When I made the thread on the forums over there, people didn't really give me a "good" answer, it was always something dumb. On top of that, no "map devs" actually came into the thread to comment about it. Its been there for a couple days now.
Once again, I did send out a e-mail to Blizzard but I don't see that doing anything honestly. But if you all know about this problem, why hasn't any mappers actually tried doing something about it at all?
Why does this bother me so much? Well, Im deff no Starcraft 2 player and never been one. I actually barely like RTS games, now that SC2 did come out, I do play it a bit more to learn how to get better at RTS games, but usually I dont like em. I've always bought Blizzard's RTS games for the custom maps them selfs. I started off on Warcraft 3, and damn, I used to play custom maps 24/7! They are truely amazing what some people come up with, for example, dota! Its just crazy, so to be honest, THIS IS A BIG DEAL. hehe <3

Basically, a unit has a kind of "bounty", that an enemy player gets if it kills the unit. So it basically works in the way that if you kill your unit, you don't get credit for killing your own unit, but neither does the enemy, so you denied them that bounty. And you basically just use the attack-command on it.
Opps, damn, I didn't mean to add that whole post, I knew about the whole denied system now, since I posted it at the other forums. But I was mainly trying to get the responds for why so many SC2 custom maps hero's deselect usually when a spell is casted on an enemy
Why I am under the impression that the hero won't be deselected if you really can cast the spell?
Only if it fails (out of range, no mana, ...) you do a normal click like you want to check the enemy HP or you double clicked.
So you cannot really differ between user fail and normal click. The solution would be that you enable a trigger that forces the player to reselect his hero unit whenever they deselect it or select multiple units. 2 Triggers can accomplish that easily.
But I think there are situations where you need to select other units for information, so you would have to toggle the forced selection.
Sadly I'm not playing these types of maps on sc2, but that's what I memorized how the engine works.

This. I don't recall having this problem at all? Slap me silly but I can't recall ever selecting the enemy hero after a succesful spellcast.
That's because you know how to cast a spell on a unit in SC2, unlike the OP. I think he left clicks to target enemy units for spells when he should really be right clicking.
Don't assume people are stupid, it just makes you look abrasive.
It's a valid complaint, though it's solvable just by disabling selection which is just a single line of code. Maybe the creators didn't want this feature?

Thanks, pRogz! :)
Now, I'm not the most advanced mapper when it comes to editor-related stuff that's not terrain, but wouldn't it be possible to just do a
"Unit uses an ability>clear selection for owner of triggering unit>select triggering unit" type of trigger to fix any issues with de-selection?
Basically, a unit has a kind of "bounty", that an enemy player gets if it kills the unit. There is a work around, Tofu uses it, think about it and the answer is very simple.
But yes, this is a problem with sc2's engine, which is why amongst other things, the sc2 engine is not the best for use with a hero map.

Or they use a generic stun buff on you so your ability is auto deselecting and then you are just elft clicking their hero?
