Hey
I attached a fire model to a unit. When the unit moves, the fire peak is left behind the unit, which is kinda realistic, but it's not the effect I'm aiming for. I'd like to fire to form like a "aura" around this unit, so I'd like to ask if anyone know how to put the fire still even when the unit move.
I'm sure it's possible !
The actor isn't attached to the unit. Make sure the host attachment is set to "SOpAttachCenter" or something else reasonable and that the scope is set to _Unit or _Selectable.
Actually, thats just how the fire model works :/ Its particles I believe... They dont follow the model in this case... Dont think theres a way to change this :(
The model is attached, just that the model uses particles which don't follow the model. It's not the only one. I've got a hero in my map that uses a WoW model which has a sort of small clouds rising upwards from it - those don't follow the hero either, even though they're part of the model.
I've used the fire medium and fire impact models for missiles, they leave trails, and look really awesome when used on missiles. The fire particles (if they are particles... Dont really know that much about modeling but I guess they are) aren't meant to follow the model.
Yes, I couldn't find the word : particles.
I'm sure there's a way to trick the model into thinking it isn't moving...
Anyone ?
edit : Or, if you have any "archon-like fire glow" effect you would advise me to use, I'd be really glad !

No that is not possible .... thats not how the particles on the model work....
what you could do is speed up the animation cycle on the fire.... this way the fire particles would leave less of a trail but the fire would animate faster

For the archon like fire glow, I think theres a model called "Archon Morph" or something like that... It's the model that appears when two templar merge into an archon. Tint it orange.

I've added plenty of fire effects to units. The ones I recall definitely work are all attack related flames, Fire Medium and Terran Building Fire Large.
I didn't wait for your answers and retinted the archon glow right away. It looks a bit strange, too color uniform atm, but by adding different glows I might get to something.
I was using the "terranbuilding firemedium"
Thanks for your answer. If you have any suggestions to improve the effects, feel free to post !

Not sure how that affects particles (im pretty sure the Archons aura is particles), but no harm in trying, would probably look better than tinting

Thats the tutorial on how to do it.
Which model, exactly, are you using?

hey anyone have any new info on this. I'm doing the same thing this guy was doing and fire trails are a pain.
I have not been able to retexture some particles next to smoke.

do you know of any flame models not based on particles?
Tried the beam of the hellion/firebat?
