Hey, so been recoloring textures a bit to make some units more visible for one of my projects. However, it has been a nightmare to figure out which parts are what. Color coding each section works to some extent, but it takes far more time than I'd prefer. Does anyone know of a good, preferably free tool to actively recolor a texture as it is applied to an SC2 model?
I am using 3d coat for texturing. Its not free but you can get the education version pretty cheap. You will be able to paint directly on the 3d mesh and it has also awesome integration with photoshop.
I use 3D Coar aswell,I bought the education version, it costs 99$ I think, but you can do normal painting, ambient occlusion generation, even sculpting and retopology with it, so it is pretty damn cool
If you have 3D Studio Max, in Tools, select ViewPort Canvas... and it pops up a window that does the same thing. ( sort of )
Another trick that ppl use is a numbered grid texture, like this numbered, colored grid texture
This maps out which part of the mesh or wich mesh is where on your texture.
