20 million a month in income is not the same as 20 million a month in profit. It's a corporation, they want to maximize profits, get over it. The same goes for any game if you want to use their art. Most companies, even little ones, are against use of the original artwork. For example, when I asked Ambrosia Software if I could use their intellectual property, specifically the name, storyline, and related ideas from Escape Velocity: Nova, they said they were perfectly fine with it, under the condition that I didn't use the artwork that came with the game and I didn't charge any money for it. Thats how it works.
Though I'm quite sure they won't care if you export from Warcraft 3, but from World of Warcraft will make them more wary, but probably not a problem.
you make a good point in that first sentence... blizzard would be making $20,000,000 a month income from WoW subscriptions alone if they ran for around $2 a month... but in fact they dont, blizzard makes at least $100,000,000 a month income off WoW subscriptions, and im undercutting it another possible $50,000,000 for stop an go users and out dated accounts.
LOL TOUCHE GOOD SIR!!!! i looked at their stock history a while back, and before WoW launched i TOLD my immediate family that it was gonna blow up. that shit grew so big, you all think apple got big since the ipod/iphone???? blizz/activision stocks BLEW them OUTTA THE WATER for that time!!! like 300% increase on single year increments! and i bet its gonna get big again with sc2/diablo3 and their next MMO. but im trying to finish my last year of professional school and can hardly afford to splurge at the bar let alone invest in their stock. though its changed since activision interjected no doubt with rock band etc... failing lately... but anyways, TY for backing up my rant Mangledmind. :) It'll be cool when my kids are playing bliz games and they think theyre the 'cutting edge' of quality gaming. Ima tell them shit..... 'you ever play war2???' 'do you know what KALI is?????' haha.... nm me i just got home from 'splurging' at the bar... haha... peace-
Wow's numbers can't be estimated accurately because out of those 11 million users over half are in China and pay per hour not month. Also some countries pay less (Russia) while others pay more (Canada/UK).
Hey. This is really old thread but I am not sure where to begin nowadays. I got really inspired by Maruders! campaign map7:
Do you know what is best tutorial or place to start with custom models / WoW models? I need some new models for my campaign. I also need some simple attack animation for those models + death animations (some sort explosion + blood splat is enough)
I inspected the Marauders map in editor it did not look really complicated to build new unit with custom model. There was simply duplicated Zergling and changed model to WoW model.
If you download the SC2 tutorials, it holds the Marauder as a max file, and some others like Zeratul, great way to get started and to learn, if at least you take a walk through the tutorial.
You can get the WoW Models to work easely if you import them into max using m2_import_v0.304b that can be found here
