anyone know of a way to import /export .m3 models in a 3d modeling freeware program such as blender?? ive only seen the ones for 3ds so far.
eidt; i know you can get a trial of 3ds for a year, but i dont have a school acct anymore, my school changed their email system and i graduated about 4 years ago...
There's a 1 month 3DS Max trial version available for anyone to use. Just get it off their site. It's not a full year, but it's better than nothing.
If you use Blender, then make all your models that you need to in Blender. When you're ready to export, just load up 3ds Max trial and export what you need. Likewise, with a month trial, you can export all the .m3's you want through 3dsMax, then export those back into Blender.
u could try gmax, which is a stripped version of 3dsmax and its free!
if its only for im and exporting i think the script from nintoxicated should work quite well...
Well that hasn't stopped Nintoxicated from writing a 3dsmax script. I don't think you need to worry about Blizzard coming after you for writing an importer/exporter script, I mean... why would they... and if they do... how could they?
There could be water marking on renders, but for the purpose you'd be using for exporting files, there shouldn't be.
Nope, not even watermarks on renders. The 30 day trial is a full version of the software, you just can't use it after 30 days. Alternatively when it expires you can try other versions of 3ds max. The plug ins should work in 3ds max 2008, 2009, 2010 (you have 3 months) plus there's also the 3ds max design versions which I think there's a 2009 and a 2010 version (that's 5 months). I also think 2011 versions are out.

It doesn't work on gmax, I've tried it before, it gives some weird matrice error, I've tried fixing it to work but since I am pretty much lost in MAXScript I couldn't :P

@Triceron: Go
are there any limits on the trial? watermarking etc?

Hello,
I would like to write an exporter for Blender but the current Battle.net Terms of Use prevent me from doing so.
If you want an exporter for Blender you might want me helping getting the "Terms of Use" problem known to blizzard: http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=25626044941
Best regards, println

I can't see why that wouldn't work :P
(did I just find a loophole in autodesk? :P)
