Under (Basic) UI: Icon in a weapon is where you can decide what the level 0 icon is in the UI for a weapon's researched level. By default, it's something like terraninfantrylevel0.dds.
This works great if you never upgrade the weapon. If you do, however, it reverts to the default terraninfantrylevel1.dds icon. How do I control what shows beyond level 0 upgrades?
To be clear, I'm talking about this:
This isn't governed in the research ability itself...or on the weapon... or via the button... I'm out of places to look. Anyone know?
Checked it out... definitely not there, I went through every field. (Basic) UI: Icon seems to be bugged or broke (under Upgrades)... Any .dds changed here doesn't have any affect on my game. Can anyone confirm?

Both, the icon and the number, are part of the Upgrade. You should look at the Terran Infantry Weapon upgrade fields.

@Bilxor: Go From triggers manually = Action - Catalog Field Value Set
Catalog - Set value of Weapons GuassRifle Icon for player (Triggering player) to "Assets/Textures/btn-upgrade-terran-infantryweaponslevel0.dds"
From data editor =
Changing the icon will change to what it will change to when you upgrade it.
Use Control + D if you are going to change multiple field values helps with time opening/closing GUI menus
