I'm trying to create a search that expands gradually until it either expires or finds a target, but for the life of me I can't seem to be able to get it off the ground.
Here is my current workflow:
An ability creates a persistent effect
The create persistent has an initial effect that applies a behavior and two periodic effects: A switch effect and the same apply behavior effect.
Each case in the switch is supported by a validator that checks the stack count of the behavior being applied, and it's supposed to trigger a search area effects that have increasingly wide arcs.
The plan is to have a missile launched at the first target found by the search, with the search stopping.
Is this sane? Is there an easier way to do this that's eluding me?
Right now I can't get the ability to even trigger, but I'm wondering if my approach on its own is reasonable.
I've added the map to the post. The light fighter there is running a small inertia engine along with D3 styled controls.
The inertia engine is based on the Hellion Wars map posted here some time ago... I can't seem to find it again to give proper credit.
The control scheme is based on Taylor Mouse's D3 controls tutorial (modified as well).
All of it was scavenged from another project of mine.
Greetings, I find that I can not follow the workflow you have described, could you elaborate on what it is you are trying to do? i may be able to assist if i understand the net goal of what you are trying to do.
I believe he is trying to increase the arc of the Search Area effect with each successive period in a Create Persistent effect.
I can think of no other way to accomplish this other than creating a separate Search Area effect for each arc angle, from the initial angle to the final angle, and running them in chronological order in a Create Persistent effect.

if you connect a search effect with an persistant effect you can set the search "bonus range" for each iteration.

Yeah I saw that, but wanted to -widen- the search cone rather than add to its radius.
