Wow. The first word that comes to mind is apocalyptic! I love how you've captured the look of a fissure having opened up dividing the city. The placement of the cars especially give the sense of it having happened suddenly and without warning. Nice work!

Well here's a quick preview of what I'm doing: A secluded mountain shrine/temple in the midst of being overrun by Zerg creep and bioforms. I'm using this shot for now as I'm nowhere near done on the Protoss side of things.

Hopefully I'll get it to a reasonably finished state before Monday :)

Nice! That first picture especially, something about the statue makes me think 'national park'. Maybe it's space Yellowstone!

I've got one idea now but I'm not sure if it fits the theme... a dam breaking and flooding an area?

Edit: Scratch that, that idea isn't panning out either... and I don't think it does match the theme now I think on it.

Ah yes I did have a Medivh avatar for a while :)

As for the background mountains, yeah I did neglect them a bit texturewise... the latter half of the week got a bit busy so I ended up focusing more on the er focus the main islands and didn't have time to pretty up the background. Maybe I shall though. Also just noticed the odd bug I got of on the overview the decals in front of the landing platforms seemingly stretching a bit strangely, even when close up they're normal.

Anyhoo I must say I had a lot of fun and I'm glad I decided to give the WTE a go :)

Oooh already got a few ideas though for one of them I kind of wish we had Heart of the Swarm already for the ice tileset (I know the Niffleheim textures are in the files but I'd need the doodads too for one idea)

Edit: Ok so I'm not sure if I will be entering or not, the ideas I had aren't panning out :-/

Also, Borg terrain is somewhat tempting given the title hehe.

Thanks :) concerning texture play I know I didn't do much on the background mountains and terrain, but anywhere else in particular?

As for the assets section, thanks again it means a lot to me coming from you (I actually used to go around WC3c a bit as Xaran Alamas and I vaguely remember your name but I'm afraid I can't recall your terrain specifically... then again it was a long time ago ). As for making it playable, I might do that myself... no idea what sort of map mind you (I have no idea why this text is smaller)

I've not looked at the attached map but I would suggest that even in the barren areas you don't leave it as just sand. Include some details even if it is barren such as maybe bones and some small rocks and such?

Thanks :) and which mining chamber do you mean? Either way, happy if I've helped you with something

Heh... funny story with my Floating Island... I originally intended to use the Redstone tileset but picked New Folsom instead by accident and I think it worked out for the best ^^

Well here's my final version. General notes: Following Mozared's advice I added more life and more little details. There's now more SCVs going about their business, Merc guards er.. guarding and even Da Boss overseeing the loading of minerals onto the Dropship. I added some indication of the inhabitation within the islands and I also added the Goblin Quartermaster Decal on the ground as it seemed somehow appropriate as a logo for a mining contractor. Also, health and safety got onto them so they put safety fences to stop people falling into the lava (plus you know, it's really hard to find good help!)

    There's also a bot who's found a new friend :)

    P.S. Map attached

Lots of submissions this week! I really like what you've done there, nice one! I think all it needs to make it cooler is more detail and such, more liveliness.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions :) I'll probably still chip away at it some more, add some more SCVs and stuff about (I figure it's too hot to go out in the open without some kind of suit) I just know I'm not always too great with deadlines and wanted to make sure I didn't end up missing the end '

The trickiest part was making the bottom of the floating island not flat... I ended up using the rocks from the Space Platform Cliff Medium doodads recoloured to match the cliff texture as they were the only hanging rocks I could think of.

Speaking of the cliffs, for anyone interested they're the Space Platform Organic cliff with the New Folsom Organic cliff texture applied. Also, the lava is actually at height 0/1 - I have the lowest terrain level hidden, place the islands, then use the terrain height tool to raise it up. This also means it appears higher than other cliffs (can't do overlap though sadly ) I'm not trying to brag, just thought the technique could be useful for others too :) you can also do it to make raised platforms like oil platforms with a bit of creative use of doodads to make the supports (even though it seems HotS is adding a cliff like that heh)
