posted a message on Blizzard Arcade Contest and Launch Event

    Hey guys,

Sorry for leaving everyone hanging for so long. Here are some responses:

    Maximum of 6 players

I’ve updated the wording in the original post to properly represent our intentions. You can allow more than 6 players in your game, but we should still be able to get your game’s full experience with just 6 human players.

    Limited Entries?

There is nothing in the rules that says you can’t submit more than one game but a person can only win once.

    Judging Factors

The most important factor is fun. Is the game fun? Do we love playing it? The other criteria will help us when we are deciding between the finalists. If we’re looking at two games that are both equally fun, the one with the higher technical achievement would receive more points. That also goes for games that are already published versus new projects. There is no requirement for the game to be completely new but that is why we have ‘freshness’ as one the characteristics we will consider when judging the quality of a game

    Publishing/Modifying Map Questions

You absolutely can publish your map before the due date and you better! As we mention in the post, we want you guys pushing your map, making players aware of it and getting their feedback. In the coming months, I plan to do Arcade nights that focus on playing any game that has a thread on the Arcade Showcase forum. So it’s very much to your benefit to get the map out there as soon as it’s playable. Once the deadline comes, you can then submit the map to use for consideration. At that point, any future updates are invalid for the contest. We will only judge your game based on the version you submit by the contest deadline. If you want to keep working on the game after submission, then we’d suggestion having two versions, a contest version and a live version. This way we can easily point players to contest valid version when it comes to the judging phase. After the contest has completely concluded, you can keep updating as you normally would.

Let me know if I missed anything.

posted a message on Blizzard Arcade Contest and Launch Event

    Hey everyone,

It's late in the day for content, but I wanted to get this out before I left for the day: we've launched a contest focused on making Arcade games. Check out the link for more information.

We're also holding another streaming event tomorrow, similar to the Arcade Holiday Marathon we did in December.

Hopefully I'll see you guys participating in both. Feel free to ask questions here or just email me at [email protected]

posted a message on Patch 2.1 Editor Changes

We are still intending to incorporate Warcraft III assets into the SC2 editor. They have definitely not been forgotten and we're sticking to our time table of 'some time in 2014'. But yes, I am bummed we haven't been able to get them out yet.

posted a message on This Friday (12/20) Arcade Marathon + EU Map Night?

    Hey guys,

We're having another Arcade event this Friday and it's scheduled to be an all-day affair, partly to allow other regions to participate, and partly to make it EPIC.

    http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/12033216/the-arcade-holiday-marathon-12-16-2013

It starts at 10 AM PST. What do you guys think of merging the EU map night with the first part of the Marathon? We're going to put out a schedule ahead of time and we could let players know that the first part of the event will take place on the EU servers where we help map-makers test out their games. We could also have an hour(s) at any point in the event where we have map creators hosting lobbies of their own games - "Meet and play with the creator of [X game]!"

If people are interested, let me know as we are fleshing out the schedule.

Hey guys, we're having another Arcade Night and we'd love to have as many of you on as we can. I'd also love suggestions for what I should play. Everyone is picking different ones and I'd love to focus on those that you think are awesome but need more exposure. Right now, I'm planning on playing Push Football and Battleline Wars which I have recently come across.

    Hope to see you online!
