The issue is that you're not giving anybody any information. You literally asked "is there an easier way to place water?". There's no details, nothing about your PC specs, graphic settings, indications this may be a bug, nothing. With such an OP you can expect to get a "upgrade your PC/downgrade your graphic settings" in response, honestly.

If you bought a new PC a month ago and you're running the editor by itself with the lowest setting graphics, then you can pretty much rule performance out as an issue; it means there's something else going on. What does your map look like? How large is it, and how much stuff is there in it? What about the settings for this particular type of water? Are you using pre-made water or did you data-edit something up yourself? If so, there may be a bug there. How far zoomed out are you? This may make a difference as well (too far will sometimes cause weird placement issues).

It also represents street cred. The higher you are the less likely you are to get shot by random thugs, and the more folks are willing to take a bullet for you.

I'm more saddened to not have seen any progress by maity and zelda on starmon

So am I, to be honest. Zelda's been busy almost 24/7 (went off to college, I believe?), and while I still speak to Maity on a daily basis, his motivation seems sort of gone. That, plus the fact that the gazillion updates since we last worked on the map littered it with bugs - especially in Zelda's area.

We've still got the files, though. Every few months or so this comes up again and I pester Maity again to at least make a move to releasing that alpha so people can play with it. It'd be an amazing portfolio thing.

Do you remember one of my terrains from the old days, it was made to be viewed from a very precise perspective and it was for a WTE that was something along the lines "where the nature takes back over the city", the camera was near the ground looking at a road with building walls on both sides made of Rubble_Building with a car in the front view on the left and many Vines on the building and there was a Bridge in the far background.... I can't find back what wte it was...

That was WTE 53, 'We Are Legends', based on the 'I Am Legend' movie. Great piece of work, even :)

    Weekly Terraining Exercise #244

    Hey again folks!

For this week, I wanted to try something completely new for the theme. Focused around the idea of "Opposites Attract", this week's exercise will again be a joint one. How will it work? Simple: one person makes a post here saying they are working on the map. Once they are done, they edit their post and upload it. Afterwards, another user can post and take it. The concept is that this time, I want you guys to make completely opposing terrains on the same map that still somehow blend together. Say the first person creates a fiery lavascape; I want the second person to add in a snow texture and put up a huge ice wall separating a tundra from the lavascape. A third person may interpret the ice wall as 'being full of water' and add a desert as an opposite to that.

The challenge will be in making sure the terrain as a whole flows and isn't simply 'a bunch of mini-terrains bunched up against each other'. You can get this done, and you deserve an A for terraining. The first person to reply will be allowed to put up the first map for others to work with.

I may have something similar but more fun for you guys next week, or in two weeks if this is succesful.

As always, good luck & have fun!

    This.

But yeah, what Hockleberry said. I've used this avatar for ages, and then suddenly on a random day everybody started making alternate versions and using them and god knows what. At one point half the forum was walking around with it. I have absolutely no idea how or why that happened, but it did. That's pretty much all there is to it, I think.

    Quote from Scbroodsc2: Go

Mozared, do you think you can make a main thread like for the WTE that will list all the threads for this project? So you can easily bookmark in your explorer? Thanks.

The issue is, I'm not sure if it's that required. With the WTE, it's nice to look back for people and see old terrains to gain inspiration. With the BWTT, the older threads will generally not be important to anyone else but the author who's map was being tested.

If there's more people who would like a general thread listening all the BWTT's, please send me a PM. I'll reconsider if there's enough interest. I'm not completely opposed to it, but maintaining such a thread costs me a minute or two for every single new exercise. That isn't a lot, but it adds up; if there was no general WTE thread, I would've saved over two hours of my life by now.

posted a message on Bi-Weekly Testing Thread #1: Blitz Fire by Trieva

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Bi-Weekly Testing Thread, or the BWTT.

As per an initiative from JayBorino and me, this thread will be the first of a number of sessions that revolve around testing specific maps made by community members. What does this mean? Simple: editors in need of feedback suggest their own maps (either via PM to me or JayBorino, or by posting it in the intro thread), and we'll pick one that will be used for the BWTT.

For this first week, the map we've picked is "Blitz Fire", by Trieva.

So for the next two weeks, see if you can take the time to hit this map up on the arcade, and post your detailed feedback here. What did you like, what did you not like? What could be improved, and possibly: how?

This thread will stay up for two weeks, until tuesday, May 3, at which point I'll upload thread #2. Up until that point, all suggestions for maps that require testing are welcome.

Good luck and have fun to all!

    Weekly Terraining Exercise #243

    Hey again folks!

For this week's WTE, I figured I'd change things up with a "Mythological Realm" theme. What does that mean? Simple - in contrast to the sci-fi themes we usually create, I'd like you guys to create any mythological realm you'd like. We're talking the icy cavern that Ymir the Norse frost giant lives in, or the Greek underworld Hades calls his home. As long as it's associated with a mythological figure, it'll do.

As always, good luck & have fun!
