posted a message on New Notebook

I'm getting a notebook for college. The one I'm looking at is a Lenovo Y460 for around $870 with my student discount.
It has a i5-520, HD Radeon 5650, 4 GB RAM, Windows 7, 500 GB hard drive, blu-ray player, and it looks pretty nice.
Do you think it is worth the cost and how well do you think it will run SC2?
Also, CPU bottleneck or GPU bottleneck?

(I'm a computer science major by the way and my budget is a notebook for less than 1k)
    Thanks! ^_^

I'm trying to get my model done. I'm kinda getting delayed by finals and high school graduation. I shall not disappoint!

The issue goes away when I render it, thanks.

It may very well be filtering that I am unaware of seeing as I am completely unaware of what filtering is!

I use 3dsmax 2011, my texture is 1024x1024 pixels (I scaled it up after 512x512 was pixellated)

Ok, I'm going to be honest. I'm not too bad at modeling... texturing on the other hand, I'm atrocious. I just tried doing a test skin to see how it would look and stuff (the UV unwrapping isn't too bad). The texture doesn't look too horrible in photoshop, even when I zoom in ridiculous amounts (well, not super ridiculous), but when I put it on the model, I get some pretty bad pixelation and my borders are pixelated and inherently not clean.

Can anyone point in the direction of tutorials and tips when it comes to texturing? I use photoshop CS5.

I'm trying to do a model for the modeling contest.

    Does SC2 support bump maps?

Also, nice model, they are a few issues, but that is just because I'm anal about details : /

I am not really sure what you mean? However, as long as the unit is textured i don't care how you do it.

They are special brushes that create a specific texture that can be used to make speedy textures for things like clothes, metal, etc.

What are the rules on using texture brushes to expedite the texturing process?

Why not just have the AI know everything without scouting?
If I was making an AI, I'd just have the AI be omnipotent.

And I'm merely graduating from high school. Maybe. Of my six classes, four are Advanced Placement. Since the beginning of the year, I have had A's and B's in every class, except for AP English Literature... Let's just say that my grade in that class would look like a typo on my transcript.

Me too. Except my school doesn't offer that many AP's. I've had all A's myself though.

Almost time for me to start working on my comp sci degree! :)

sorry lol i just used the reply button on a random post. and just because he has a high poly count does not mean he will win =) its the best looking. if someone could have a low poly count and are amazing artists and do texturing really well.

It's true, I suck at texturing.

7k polygons come out of me not trying to optimize it. If it was doing a legit game model, it would be much more optimized.

o lol well if you do not have photoshop there it is, it flagged it as a new feature so i just assumed.

My computer can't run the 3d editor... I tried >_>

What tools are the best for easy texturing and UVmapping and stuff?

Also, attached is what I've got done so far. A 7k polygon shoe...

So, just a heads up, I'm going to most definitely exceed 20k polygons. I'm at like 4k polygons, and this is just on Hope's shoe (one of them).
Should I keep on going with this high count model or should I do a more gameplay oriented model?
