posted a message on Possible to give experience to a hero through purchase (not kills)

This may be a data editor question, I am just trying to figure out if its possible to add experience to a hero unit without it being through kills. For example cashing in minerals to gain a level. I'd rather not do this through inventory though I know that's an option if it doesn't work.

Let me know if this is a data editor issue or if you have any thoughts/suggestions. Thanks!

EDIT: I found the Set unit Property action can modify experience. I suppose one option is to make a research ability that would add experience through variables. That only sets the experience not adds, so I'd have to modify the variables first I think.

    Any other ideas?

So it wouldn't be usable online at all? That sucks but at least they raised it I guess. Thanks for the quick responses :)

posted a message on Map Size Limit

I don't know if they have changed this its been a while since I did any editing but is there still the 10 MB size limit on maps?

If so what happens if you break that limit? Is it still playable in a private group and just not publishable or does the map not work at all?

    Thank you :)

posted a message on Melee maps with heroes?
    Quote from Wakeman: Go

When SC2 was released, some WC3 players were disappointed that there is no heroes in melee maps. Well, there are both pros and cons for melee maps with & without heroes. Blizz has its reason to have no heroes in SC2 melee maps.

Nevertheless, I would like to see some melee maps with heroes. For example, my dota map Aeon of Chaos has six heroes which are quite balanced in the dota map. I would like to see if they would do well too in melee maps. Is there any easy way to move them to melee maps, or do I need to wait for future patches. Would library helps? I haven't touch library much so not sure what exactly it can do.

It wouldn't be too hard to add heroes to melee maps through triggers or just placement. If you mean with leveling heroes and inventories like wc3, there are quite a few tutorials on this site in the tutorials section I believe.

That looks pretty nice. I tried to make a Dragoon from scratch for one of my classes, it turned out okay but nothing great. It makes me appreciate what you have there more too. Nice work.

I am not in the wrong. I said TLDR "SORRY". Thats not being rude bud. I didn't make this thread for ideas. i made this thread for People to join my team so we can create this map. Suggestions or comments on this thread Nty. All im looking for is people to join my team. And if im in the wrong, why is it that dark revenant is not replying back to this subject about Me being foolish or what not. I could care less if the public judges me. All the public needs to know is that, I need a few more people and this team will be set. I guess i stated the wrong thing in one of my paragraphs? Let me correct it.

Only post on this thread if you are interested in Joining my team. When your on the team, then its open discussions on what could be changed, or suggestions on how it should be. So please, don't reply to this thread unless you are interested in joining my team. I will not post anymore unless someone is wanting to join my team.

Just because you say "sorry" doesn't make it not rude. I'm not here to flame but I have read this topic. You can't tell me you haven't seen satires in shows and movies where someone will say "no offense" and say something extremely offensive and be shocked that the person is offended. It's kinda like that.

You posted a thread up with the concept, on a forum designed for map making. You even have a line in your first post saying you want someone to look over the design for flaws and such. He gave you feedback and suggestions, why would you deny those suggestions just because he not on your team?

I just hope you will look at how you worded that and be more respectful...

I have a couple friends I could play with, but I have not found any maps like that so far. If anyone knows of any map names for maps like that, it would be great :D

posted a message on Is there a turn-based risk map in SC2?

I personally like more strategic games in some cases, and although the risk maps I have played involve strategy, they typically are very... not like risk. Mostly since they are real time.

Is there any turn based versions anyone knows of? I would try to modify one or make one, but I really don't have time at least not until this semester ends.

    Or maps like that even?

    Thanks.

If you wanted the units to look different that could take quite a bit of work. You would have to model/skin the units so that they appear different from the current races.

If you can do that, or just use the current units it would not be difficult at all though. It would be time consuming, but not difficult. You would just create each unit in the data editor and make the workers able to build the custom structures and whatnot.

The depth that you are going to use really decides how challenging it would be though.

I actually started a Jurassic Park map, but due to... unpopularity of the idea among some other things I put that on hold.

But I am working on a LotR one now. So that fits this :)

posted a message on LotR Custom Maps?

    @Kalreborn: Go

For my terrain I basically got a decent map of middle earth online, then opened a 256x256 map in the editor. Then I turned on the grid, and counted how many squares there were, and made a grid on the middle earth map to match.

Then printed out the map and I am now going square by square trying to make the terrain. Its very tedious but I think it will work out in the long run. It obviously won't be a perfect match or anything, but I am getting it as close as I can.

any map pages for these yet? didn't see any when i did a quick browse but i don't really like the way this site navigates, i could have easily missed it. plz post a link if you guys do have one up!

I will be attempting to remake/make my own version of LotR Last Alliance that was in SC1. I am working on the terrain right now, and hope to make it similar to the original, while adding many much needed fixes.

I don't expect this to be done anytime soon as just making the terrain takes quite some time. (I would import the terrain from SC1, but I tried that and the terrain just isn't quite right.... also the dimensions work differently so the map doesn't quite fit the same way)

I will put up a page in the future when more is done. I am not sure if anyone is remaking the map already, but I'm still going to give it a shot.

I am quite impressed with a lot of these spells. Especially that many of them are done with only the data editor. I definitely want to look into how to do some of this with the data editor. Very nice :)

You could have different battlefields to fight on. If the leaders meet outside of their base I mean. The terrain can be different to make the map more strategic in that aspect. Just throwing that out there.

You can definitely pull this off, you would just disable control of the units for the turns and use triggers to move units.

I played a map that had this general idea in SC1, I don't remember what it was called. It was fun and I imagine it would be a much better map in SC2.
