posted a message on Standard Melee Guidelines?

Gold Bases have 6 rich mineral fields, and 2 rich geysers. Normal Bases have 8 normal mineral fields, and 2 normal geysers.

As a general guideline to how many bases I make I usually have 4 bases per a player, unless you get a lot of players then you have to cut off at a certain point otherwise you have too many bases.

Terrain should be balanced for every player, to make interesting maps you should try using different types of symmetry (rotational etc). Most if not all of the GSL maps use rotational symmetry stemming from the central point.

Give your maps direction and focal points, and avoid things like Siege Tanks being able to shell away at your base from across a gap. Those are what piss people off.

Don't attempt to change up the terrain too much. It should be equal and a direct copy/paste of itself. Changing parts of it just throws things out of proportion and creates imbalances. This is one of the main issues people have with Blizzard's maps, there are too many imbalances due to terrain difference across their maps.

Having a mock-up map design prior to starting is much better than starting without one. Try not to go in blind, you get stuck on ideas.

Creative use of rocks and neutral/hostile units can add A LOT to your map, so keep them in mind when making designs for your map.

Even with such information he couldn't have done anything, the cow's model needs to have the flag "Render alpha as team color" in order for...the alpha to render as team color...

    Post more productive replies, please.

But anyways, here's the texture and model you need for this. The reason you couldn't find the texture is because there's no such thing as "cow_diffuse.dds" or so (like logic would dictate the name should be). The cow, along with other 3 animals (a rooster, a sheep and a crow) share the same texture so the name was animal_diffuse.dds, a look into the file as text would have shown the name.

As side information I messed up the texture at first and ended up with fully player colored cows xD

    Thank you :D

    Blizz and their confusing ways...

Idk why, but I can't find this cow texture... It's probably not helping that it's 2:45 AM. I will get this done tomorrow.

I'll see if I can find it quickly before I go to bed.

Edit: Is it included in the cow's .m3 model? I cant find it either...

Edit: Yeah I just checked the MPQ files. There isn't any .dds cow(or any other critter) texture in SC2. I'm pretty sure they're included in the cow.m3 file(otherwise I have no idea where they would be located) so I'm going to need someone to edit the model of the cow, since there apparently is no texture...

    Use GIMP then ;o

I'd rather not... no need to have another image editing program. My comps running out of room as it is. Cinema 4D, Photoshop CS5, StarCraft II, AfterFX CS5, Ilustrator CS5, Sony Vegas Pro 10, FL Studio, Kontakt 4, Portal 2, WC3 + WC3 Expansion, StarCraft & BW, Movies, music, Soundforge, are taking up all my space.

I can't atm, but for future reference, team color is just alpha channel on the diffuse. If that means anything to you. I'll try to get this done for you, but someone else probably will first.

I have Photoshop CS5, but my computer is not compatible with the .dds plugin so I cant edit the textures. Thanks for taking the time to do this, though! Much appreciated.

I need someone to make me a spotted cow texture, but have the spots display team color in-game. You can use the SC2 Cow model, I just need some spotted team colored cows for my map. P.S. The cow's base color needs to be white!

posted a message on Pre-placed creep doesn't affect pre-placed agria trees?

IIRC Creep has special animations for killing trees and making them look dead. I want this effect to happen on a collection of Agria trees near the center of my map, but it seems if you place creep tumors and then trees around them, the creep doesn't effect the trees in-game. They don't 'die'. Any solutions?

You can't even make it change, let alone morph in and out :(

    Another missing feature :(

Well, you could turn on cinematic mode briefly to hide it, but that's not exactly what you want, as you cannot actually show a different UI when you turn it back on.

In my map there is a point where you switch sides, and I think it would be sweet if I could get the Terran Battle UI to morph out, and then morph back in as the Zerg Battle UI. Anyway I can do this?

Try looking at this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=C4B519253E8BDB1A maybe you will find what you have done differently.

I have looked at that tutorial. And Bifuu's WC3 inventory emulation tut on mapster. I'm pretty sure my problem lies in the fact that I cant pick up the item. I added containers and still had the issue...

do your inventories have containers, or are they just placeholders?

I may be mistaken but you probably need a container for each of your "open inventory" slots so that the items can be contained (ie picked up)

Wouldn't that undo the open inventory though? Not sure what you mean by placeholders... they dont have anything besides a class associated with them.

Edit: Tried adding the same container for all 6 of the slots, doesn't seem to work. When I buy an item from the shop it just ends up spawning on the ground instead of in my inventory.

I'm using an always open inventory on my hero, but I cant seem to pick up or receive items into my inventory at all.

Is there any way I can keep my inventory open all the time and still be able to pick items up or receive them? Been searching for answers for hours, halp...

You do know that a lot of those are from the campaign and are nothing special, right?

Some are legitimate models, others are just placeholders. I didn't make sure they we're actually what they said they we're, I just saw them in the list and some of them in the previewer using the browse console command.
