Well that's a shame that you're not going to use the Galaxy Editor. It's MUCH more powerful than the WC3 editor, and you can do so much more. I'm not sure what limitations you're referring to, but there are fewer than in WC3. Also, you can't expect to learn how to use the Galaxy Editor in one day.

Porting a WC3 map to SC2 is harder than you'd think. I didn't know about the unit difference between SC2/WC3 (128 in WC3 = 1 in SC2 etc) but it's helpful to know. Terrain also cant have more than 3 height levels in SC2, where as in WC3 you can have as many as you like. This can screw your port up because you have that 3 level restriction. For your camera change you need to make a custom camera and just apply it at map intialization through triggers.

Water tile size cant be modified, but you can paint different types of water at varying heights and use terrain deformations to make it seem like there is shallow water, etc in SC2 when there is no such thing. Also I'd love to see a third party utility that allows you to import a WC3 map's terrain into the SC2 Galaxy Editor

Some constructive feedback for Episode 2 and above:

You need to mix the sound better, It's difficult to hear what the characters are saying a lot of the time. Music should be a bit quieter, and you should tone down the voice effects on some of the characters, their speech is extremely distorted at points. Everything in the video should be able to be heard clearly, that's when you know you've done a good job mixing it.

Otherwise cant wait for episode 2.

I've got it too but it doesn't help that I prefer fantasy/medieval and now d3 is on the horizon...

I get it all the time, but then I kind of force myself to slave at my current map, because in the end I know I would want to play the final product personally, never mind about the community.

And yes, maybe i might be working on a map like this.... :P

I'm not sure if you should even bother. Blizzard has issues with anything related to religion, etc and from what I've heard bans the maps that they don't think are appropriate, afaik this falls under that category of inappropriate.

    Quote from SoodaTH: Go

Don't you have time to do it yourself or just don't know how to do it? Which one? I saw many terrain tutorials and there are some options which you need to verify first: How big does your terrain texture needs to be? (they all are power of 2).

Teny2 wrote: ...Note that the size of your image must be a power of 2 for it to work in the Galaxy editor (128, 256, 512, 1024, ect).... How big (thick) does need to be gridline? Max texture size by default SC2 uses is 2048? Making your specific size in the Gimp is easy. Can't you also choose from GalaxyEditor grid size (from tiny to huge?). That arises question how big grid box needs to be (tiny, huge or something inbetween?) I, myself, do not have SC2 full version nor GalaxyEditor. Though I could make you that texture.

1024x1024 is fine. I'll take a picture of what one cell of terrain in SC2 looks like:

    http://i861.photobucket.com/albums/ab180/l3lackjax/Terrain005-1.jpg

One cell of terrain = one little square. The grid lines should be about 5 pixels wide, and make sure to use the colors in the main post. If you can make the grid lines glow somehow, that would be sweet too.

The image above of the cells is not fullsize, click it to enlarge to get a better idea of how big the cells are..

Could someone make me a simple grid texture that fits perfectly into a 1x1 cell in the editor? Use the following colors:

    http://i861.photobucket.com/albums/ab180/l3lackjax/color2.png # 77a3b0 - Background color for the grid

    http://i861.photobucket.com/albums/ab180/l3lackjax/color1.png # a1ddee - Gridline color

Needs to be the same size as the normal SC2 textures, but must fit perfectly within a 1x1 cell of terrain.

This is the closest I could find to the Wings of Liberty font, but it's still pretty far off. The WOL font is more geometric, bold, straight, has sharper edges, and more serifs than Kabel. And the uppercase Y looks more like a lower case y, which is not the case in WOL font.

I attached some of the fonts from SC2. They are variations of http://www.linotype.com/89986/microgramma-family.html#

I don't exactly know what the wings of liberty font is though...

I already have the Eurostile fonts, don't have the microgramma ones. I'ma get them though.

Update: After a long time of searching the closest thing I can find are some gif's that blizz made in starcraft 1. They are rather tiny and crude but they have the right shape. I may hire someone to create a better sc font from these gifs... anyone here talented enough?

Attached are some samples and the full list of gif letters.

Well I have photoshop so I could try to make some png's + psd's of the shapes of these letters, but I do not have the software to actually piece together a font and I have yet to find a decent font making program on the internet. I'm also not sure if I have the time right now, and tbh I'm more interested in which font Blizzard used for "Wings of Liberty" because I keep seeing it on a lot of SC related things now, and I'd love to be able to use it in other graphic works.

posted a message on 1 Year of Starcraft. What Blizz brought to us...

I posted this in a thread on the SC2 community forums that pertained to how disappointing Battle.net 2.0 is a year after launch. Listed everything I could remember about Battle.net 2.0's fail-filled rise to being infamous for sucking, and how Blizzard is not doing damn near enough to fix it.

    Quote from me:

Blizzard, your game is fun. I like your game.
Your service, is crap. I do not like your service. Whoever designed the interface for it, I do hope you have fired them by now.

    - Real ID angertrip

Did you really think this would go over well with anyone? You had to learn when people found Micah Whipple's address, among other things, in protest of this real id bs.

    - No clan support
    - No sense of community
    - No shared replays
    - SC1's lobby system > SC2's (and that game is 10+ years old now)

You cant even name your game, you just create and people join. Very basic, very bulky and cumbersome interface, and the chat box is too small.

    - No chatrooms at launch (need I remind you about the "But do you really want chatrooms?" crap)
    - No global/regional leaderboard by rank, only smaller leaderboards for your "division"
    - No LAN Service AT ALL
    - No name change service
    - Requires b.net to even play the god damn game

...and so many more disappointments. It's been a year since this game was released. What have you guys fixed:

    - Chatrooms we're added (although they can be difficult to use, and they're interface is really bad)

    - Added/Renamed Diamond, Master & Grand Master League

    - Several Cheap fixes for your terrible lobby system and custom match making search options that still don't really fix the problem as there is still a very low sense of a "community" on B.net.

    Everything is still dead.

    - You added a name change service with 1 free name change

You have a bad service, and whats worse is it's pretty much all forced upon us to even play your game. There is no LAN support due to your, apparently extremely big, fear of piracy (that is bound to happen anyways). I said it above, your game is fun, battle.net is not.

It's lack of features that should have been present from day 1, and still continue to remain absent from this game is ridiculous. Especially given that the original Battle.net had almost every one of these things built in. This is not an upgrade, not in the slightest. It's more of a joke. You cant possibly tell me you do not have the fund necessary for these things, WoW provides more than enough cash for that.

Is it Activision that's ruining you? That seems to be the trend, and their track record keeps rising. First Infinity Ward, next Blizzard Entertainment, then what will they destroy?

Like this post if you agree, lets see if they take it down.

Good points, although are you sure gold bases have rich geysers? I opened up a few melees to check and they don't seem to go with that, i.e. they use normal geysers too.

Really it depends. You don't have to use rich geysers, but as a general guideline there are 2 rich geysers at gold expo's. This doesn't mean people wont deviate from that rule. Especially when they're trying to be creative. Some of the GSL maps do this, where they give your natural expansion(for example) a rich geyser but few mineral fields, etc.

You can play with this all you want, just make sure it is mirrored & balanced for every player.

Hi :) Thought I'd reboot a map I was working on a while ago. Any thoughts on balance / aesthetics and such?

    Also, greetings new forum!

Looks like a pretty good map. Maybe some fancier doodading would make it appeal even more. Decals take a long time to put down I know, but make it variable. Doodads & textures are what give your map variety, because the terrain must be equal.
