Thanks for the more indepth reply. How do you know this though, have you been in contact with Blizzard or is it just a guess?
Im not sure what qualifies as "written permission from the copyright holder". I emailed the copyright holder about my project and they quickly replied, telling me that they are in general alright with the use of their trademarks und copyrighted stuff as long as you abide by a set of guidelines (which they provide for everyone to read online). Then they wished me good luck with the project. What is that worth and does that count as a written permission?
I contacted the Blizzard customer service about this through the customer service chat and the gamemaster there told me that I shouldnt worry and that the project is alright, however, that gamemaster was also unfamiliar with Blizzards practice of deleting maps and their policy regarding it, so I dont think the word of the gamemaster is worth all that much in this regard. What do you think?
Aside from that, I still wasnt able to get a reply from Blizzard.
so, Ive been trying to get into contact with Blizzard because I want to talk some legal stuff with them through regarding an upcoming Arcade map of mine, but I have a hard time getting a response. Do any of you know whats the best way to contact Blizzard, especially in a case like this? Ive been trying to email the community managers, but they dont respond.
If all goes well, this will finally be the year were my massive SC2 RPG project will finally be revealed to the public, the one that has been on my mind for several years now and that I have worked on and off on for just as long aswell.
Some people might remember that my (due to copyright) cancelled RPG project "Transformers: Open World", which was rather ambitious in its own right, was merely supposed to be a test run for my RPG project yet to come.
Its just a quick kitbash (used some assets from Titanfall and some tank models) and render to somewhat get across what Im going for. Basically its supposed to be a robot in a world far after humanity has faded away, that sustains itself by scrapping together old parts of leftover human technology to survive, for example, replacing parts of its body with tank parts and whatnot. Earth in this scenario would be full of human leftover trash and junk, basically a giant scrapyard inhabitated by robots.
Do you think this artstyle/theme has potential for a third person map? Yes, no? Thoughts?
A new upgrade for the site, I like it! Hopefully it brings in new people, thats what I feel like is the most important part. Black on white is unusual for sure for this site, but other good forums like NeoGaf use it aswell, so I dont see it beeing a problem.
I mainly worked on the little shoulder horns right above the shoulder, making the form basically exactly like they were in Diablo 2 (on the HOTS model they were basically just straight horns, as you can see in the first post) aswell as adjusted the position of them, making them closer to the neck, as they can be seen very well in this reference:
I agree only with the loss of the goat/bull face, replaced with a sort of "generic brute" face, it's inferior but still more expressive imho
I do agree that the HOTS Diablo model looks pretty powerfull and imposing on the battlefield, though I think it does so despite its shortcomings. When not in motion, I think he looks ridiculous even ingame.
I really like his face, really remember my old times in Diablo II. The sarcastic face <3
The only thing I dislike is the soulstone and the chest, the soulstone isn't looking natural as it should (at least look more like a 'stone' instead of a 'jelly'), and the chest is a bit bigger then it should be.
But the most important thing, it will be public?
Yeah, its true, the soulstone could use some more work. I will see what I can do to make it look better.
Good catch on the chest - I will probably make it smaller to make it more in line with the Diablo 2 design.
As for if it will be public, Im not sure what I will do with it yet when its finished. If I dont decide to do anything with it myself, I will most likely make it available on request for people that work on a strong project that I feel like could really utilize and benefit from the model.
The old Diablo is more of a dragon/serpentine/reptillian. I like it. The new ones seems like it comes from an artist's racism. I'm not gonna say it, but all these Big-bad shapes remind me of something.
It's just how I feel about the new diablo face.
Dafuq? Just saying, if you see racist shit in stuff that isnt race related at all, maybe you should begin to question your own inner stance on the topic.
Dude are your seriously using an almost 5 years old model from 2012 (1:51 minute) when they updated Diablo model on the end of May 2014 ( 1,5 years ago) ?? The new model is so much better, just look at this video
Just admire this badassness, the whole model is better, new face, new textures, new animation, new claws, new mount Diablo 2 style, new pose, new face animations... This model is ages ahead of the old one, it's so good that your new model imho isn't even needed, take this picture for example
Hands down the best model in the game at the moment
Best mount in the game dank/10
I disagree wholeheartedly. While maybe superior in polycount, the new Heroes of the Storm model is an absolute insult to Diablo and it looks nothing like Diablo should look like. Its fat, ugly and takes all the worst aspects of Diablos designs over the years while taking none of the best. His face is a fuckin joke. The body texture looks like zerg, not like Diablo.
Also, and most importantly for this project, it looks nothing like the Diablo 2 design of Diablo, and my model is committed to creating a high quality model that mimics the Diablo 2 sprite as much as possible.
Just look at this awesome visage of a face and then look back at the ugly troll-like face of the new HOTS model. Atleast the old model SOMEWHAT tried to capture this:
This is what Im trying to recreate, not just another "interpretation" of Diablo.
This is also the reason why I choose the older model as a base for the body. The older models body is much closer in design to the Diablo 2 design (they obviously tried to match the two designs in certain aspects), meaning it serves this purpose much better than the newer model.
My disdain for the new HOTS model is actually one of the reasons I started working on this model in the first place.
Did you know, when Blizzcon announced the necromancer for Diablo III, they also announced a fully playable Diablo I remake!
For some awesome Diablo content (Fan made) check out this guys work, Diablo by Sandvik
So, some comments, the chin is too tiny, in the neutral lighting there are lots of details that are gone, so depending on the game engine you want to use, plz verify that it turns out great. The chest looks ok, apart from the missing glow ( like the one from Heroes of the Storm)
T.
All those screenshots are from within the SC2 editor. Ofc every model looks better if you take the time to set up some good lighting for your maps.
Can you specify what you mean with the chin beein too tiny? I did leave out the chin spike intentionally because I felt like its not a big part of the silhouette of Diablos head in Diablo 2 (for example, its barely visible in the artwork of the head on the back of the Diablo 2 box and also barely visible in alot of frames in the sprite).
I wont include any glow on the body of this model because the Diablo 2 design didnt have any body glow.
but his face is kinda... lizardlike? with all the teeth on display he reminds me of this guy
As for the more lizard/wolf like head, yeah, that was the point, seeing how Diablos head is alot more lizard like in Diablo 2, as you can clearly see in the references I used. This is a feature of the Diablo 2 design that I really like and has never been used in any of the other designs or models again, so I made sure to include it in my one.
And yeah, both Horny from Dungeon Keeper aswell as Diablo in 2 seemed to be very proud of their teeth. Tho I might have gone abit overboard with it, maybe I´ll experiment around with toning the teeth down just a touch.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT. THOSE GRAPHICS ARE A-MAZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING. Today is a good day indeed.
Holy fuck, I wonder if those are the SAME models used for the sprites as they are for SC1. Wow. Cant wait, didnt think this would hype me so much.

I think this might be a very exciting year.

So, Im always juggling with ideas for new maps and especially also new themes and artstyles for possible maps of mine.
Did a VERY quick visualisation of an idea thats floating around in my head and wanted to hear some opinions:

Got to work on the Lord of Terror abit today.

Glad you like the old-styled face though.

Seeing how its a model made for maps with a third person perspective in mind, these screens are in a sort of in-Game camera angle.
