I'd be more than happy to assist you if you'd like. I don't really have any projects at the moment, but working on this has got me wanting to create a full multiplayer 2d rpg. I've got a few ideas for it, but nothing's really set in stone yet.
Are you also in the NA region? I would like to try out a new project as well. Especially a 2D one. My project was a collaboration with the original maker of the map, but I don't feel like working it as much without him, or someone who has a grasp of the project.
Wow very nice. This, coupled with rrowland 2dsprite char animation, 2D RPG can be reborn. Oh how ive been longing for good ole game like FF4, FF6 and Chrono...
The file size is the biggest issue. Because I'm using a lot of large imported images, I'm pretty close to the map size limit. I think it's at 8mb now with all the 1000 AD locations. Still, I think the playable map area is large enough to accomodate several players. And a single player campaign type map could exceed the size limit, right?
I would absolutely love to do that, but Square has a history of threatening fan games with lawsuits. I could totally try to make a 2d MMO for sc2, but it probably can't use any content from other games, for obvious reasons.
Yeah, don't attempt copying anything from Square, they get pissed. A great 3D Remake of Chrono Trigger was harassed near completion by Square and they stopped making it when it was looking too good to be true...of course it technically was in the end =/
I assume map size (huge) is a problem. Since the snes is just running on a 256x224 resolution, would it be viable to reduce the size of everything and have it zoomed in?
As for the sprites, you can always use public domain ones, such as http://www.panelmonkey.org/category.php?id=4 or the ones based on Blizzard's earlier SNES titles. Not much RPGs there though (apart from that one crappy LOTR game they ported).

If we could modify the sc2 galaxy editor grid/pathing size...
It's a marine with no model. The game locks you into selecting it. The animations are just based on the facing of the unit and whether its position has changed since the last frame. If it's within 45 degrees of facing straight north, it uses the up facing frames, and so on. There's also an option to move with the keyboard, which is just a simple eight directional movement thingy.

6 JP or 6 NA? They're both different.
Nice choice of RPG :P.
Would this be possible with 2.5D sprites, like the older Bioware titles and Diablo 1+2?
*edit* Since I know that the viewing angle is different, I'm not sure decals would work for the environment.
This is absolutely amazing, the soundtrack brought back childhood memories. :')
I can't wait to see what amazing stuff people do with this technology!

Any company is going to jump on that. They loose all their copyrights when they let things like that slide.

I'm not sure. Something tells me it's possible, but I'm not entirely sure how one would go about it without making it look really bad.

it look better than the tutorial of the other guys cause you can select the unit and move with mouse and keyboard with constant animated!

hope you reply
