So I was surprised when I came across a self proclaimed remake of one of my 2013 maps, Nydus Mastermind. When I made that I wanted to create a more aggressive Phantom game mode map. So for those who haven't played either, I'll give you the basic rundown of Phantom of the Nydus.
It is a melee style map, but one player is secretly spawning hostile nydus worms around the map, trying to destroy all the other players. These nydus worms spawn hostile units. In this new version the other players can win by either discovering the nydus player and killing them, or by destroying a super fortified nydus base in the middle of the map. I like the inclusion of this middle base. My map just had a timer instead that auto-revealed who was the nydus player after a set time.
Anyways it's pretty fun, so I suggest trying it out. You can find it under the strategy section in the arcade.
Some notes for improvement to the map maker:
- Add an opt in/opt out system to be the nydus player. Could be in game or in lobby.
- Filter it so that a computer player cannot be chosen to be the nydus player (for those who want to try the map out solo first/etc).
