On Friday I recently uploaded my new map, Eras Zombie Invasion on the NA server (I had meant to post a thread on this 2 days ago, however I was unable to get on.) I have created this thread as well as on the Custom map forums, simply to acquire feedback for this map so i can improve upon it.
If you are familiar with eras zombie invasion from Warcraft 3 than you will know that this is indeed a remake. I have brought all of the mechanics of that map over into the Starcraft 2 version. If you are not familiar you should note that it is similar to world war zombies, however instead of starting out as humans with guns, the game starts in Europe sometime in the middle ages. As you upgrade and unlock new tech you must hold off a horde of increasingly more powerful zombies. Every human killed by a zombie provides the zombies with gold and a newly formed zombie, making it so that players who try and go lone wolf, barricading themselves off while the rest of Europe falls, will have a difficult time holding off a zombie team that has been feasting all game.
The map also contains a water system that emulates quite well, water in the war3 version and allows for human ships and water zombies. The game still needs some balance work to be done and I am already getting helpful feedback from players, allowing me to fix glitches and add missing features. If you manage to check out the map i would greatly appreciate any criticisms you may have or suggestions to improve. I made this map as i saw some players requesting this be remade for starcraft 2. I hope that with time, and your support, I can do them and the original justice.
Hiya Smith. I only played this with three people including myself, so I'm not sure if that was the source of the issue, but it was Me and one other human versus one Zombie. I'm not sure whether "as a result" should precede this or just "Then," but I'll continue regardless...the Zombie grew ridiculously strong. By the end of the game, he wound up having somewhere around 20,000 HP on some of his Zombies without any upgrades, and all of my units could do exceptionally little damage to the massive horde.
As well, I wasn't quite sure what certain buildings were doing throughout the game, or whether they were having any effect. Do the lumbermills give you lumber every so often, or do they just increase the amount of lumber you get? Is there a radius of effect? I'm honestly still not sure. I upgraded the ones I had and that was that, really. There were also exceptionally little chokehold points in the game from which players could hold off, and once you built a wall, there was a wall there and not anything players could do to get around it, which leads me into the point that building alot of things was very awkward, since the building space was crowded and limited. I was Great Britain, of course, so I suppose that could have something to do with it.
Overall, the game was fairly entertaining, but the impossibility of it from a Human perspective grew kind of..tiring...I guess you could say. I learned at the end of the game that the friend playing the Zombies hadn't actually gotten any Health upgrades, and thus the zombies were naturally that absurdly strong. Kinda threw me for a loop. But anyway, it's a good game with good mechanics, but it needs alot of balancing work.
Just played this, and totally crushed on my 2nd attempt. As france i early expanded to america and straight eco-d up. As other players slowed down the two zombies, England and i just kept eco-ing and teching until we maxed out upgrades - only then did zombies get swim. Maybe let them get swim earlier to prevent such camping? Yeah, we got some events which spawned a few zombies in US and canada, but that wasnt really enough to stop us. I also camped out in Greenland with like 10 lumber mills and 10 markets for more eco, zombies couldnt touch me till too late.
The friendly fire feature, if it is intended, tends to be more of an irritating greifing method than anything else. It really doesn't seem to belong. There always seems to be at least one person in the game who thinks it's hilarious to kill someone/multiple people.
I've played France twice so far, thought the game was great. About an hour and a half per game. I did have one gripe that I noticed immediately, there seem to be far too many upgrades. I didn't play the original Eras, and it might just be fan-service, and this is totally just from an opinion standpoint; I always felt like upgrades were just to get to the next tier, and didn't feel like they were having a real effect on my units. I would much rather have a few solid upgrades than 50 useless feeling ones.
SmithTek could you please upload this map to the EU server because currently it is only available on the Us server and there are lots of players (like me) who want to play it on the EU server. If not could you please upload it somewhere because then i could put it on the EU servers.

Also I could look into where could you reduce the lag. (I had lag problems with almost all of my map and I always figured out something, removing shadows is a good start.)
Also I have Anteep in friends in EU:D (he made the original w3 Eras Zombie Invasion)

Good luck and happy mapping. =)
Let's see if you have done it justice

This map is awesome but WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to laggy.... I dunno what you could do though.
NA only? Noooooooo :( I really liked that map in wc3, you need to find an EU uploader :D
If you can disable shadows from every unit in the game (and the tree shadows as well) it would really help reduce the lag
I'll publish it on EU since I made EZI1.

Is this map available on the EU servers? I can't find it what is it's name?
Well there is no one EU. But you dont missing much. Lag, pro players at this map hatting noobs, imbalance.
Sorry to thread necro, but is this map the one with the team selection in the lobby done with colors? What trigger code allows you to do that?
