100. Rap - Its a bunch of Drug addicts who should just slit their own wrist and quit dragging down Society.
I agree; half-wits who listen to rap music often seem to be of sub-par intellect. Half-wits who don't listen to rap music are more or less the same, though.
However, musical preference is certainly the fairest way to judge a person's character and intelligence in general. This is a well-known established fact.
I must say, though, your statement about drug addicts and bringing down society and so forth does seem slightly at odds with your choice of signature.
"100. Rap - Its a bunch of Drug addicts who should just slit their own wrist and quit dragging down Society."
That's not rap, that's just industry churned consumer garbage. I used to never listen to rap for those same reasons, until a few of my friends pointed me to Immortal Technique and a few others on that east-coast indie scene.
Not that there's any point in argueing... anything with TaintedWisp, but while we're on the subject...
Also try "Fort Minor - Right Now", "Cunninlynguists - Don't Leave (When Winter Comes)", "Cunninlynguists - Mic Like A Memory" and "Parov Stelar - Sunny Bunny Blues (feat. Veda 36)". Nobody will dislike all of this if they take the 20 minutes to really focus on the songs.
music is judged by the majority. I'm not going to lie, I like comedic rap, but past that, im good.
@mozared
Eh, I shouldnt have to "focus" on music to like it. I focus on music and thats when I hear what they are talking about and thats when I dont like them :D
I mean I might check the out later, but I have found I hate all music in another language, and all music that has a Strong accent of German, French, and Italian, dont know why just dont like them no matter how hard I try, i'm fine with Scottish, Irish, British, Japanese(accent no language) Aussie, Etc.
Ive said it multiple times, Everyone is different.
Edit: Though I don't listen to metal like I used to, but when I did that's what I listened too. Now I listen to prog-rock, classic rock, Impressionism and Medieval-Gregorian Chant. Occasionally I get that itch, though.
I focus on music and thats when I hear what they are talking about and thats when I dont like them :D
The songs I linked are about A) the horrors of Japanese inprisonment by USA in WW2, B) life as a whole and the current state of society, C) life on the road and paying respects to your family and friends for coping with it, D) remembering your past of fighting through an unequal system and E) laying down your reasons for being who you are. A) is a personal story, B) lays down a unique window-view on life, C) is another personal story, D) is a personal story everybody should be able to relate to and E) isn't as interesting contextwise as it is brilliantly engineered word-wise. Now I can imagine not giving a shit about any of that, but I refuse to believe people can listen to that, know the meaning and 'not like it'. That'd be like you telling me the story of your father's passing and me replying that your dad was probably an asshole anyway.

Wait, what? How does that tie in to liking or disliking rap? It's not like most rappers have a German, French or Italian accent? Heck, nearly none of them do - I can't evenname more than two French rappers and one of those doesn't have an accent.
Have you ordered Lost in the New Real yet? Sounds great so far.
Not yet, no - I haven't been following Ayreon lately. Kind of lost interest for metal as a whole, and that last album (even forgot the name) was nothing special. Heck, most of the stuff on that was verse-chorus-verse-chorus, a solo then boom. It's as generic as it can get, especially when compared to the Human Equation and Into the Electric Castle. That stuff was as close to perfect as music can be. Literally everything one can demand from music is in there. GREAT lyrics, an overarching theme, sick instrument play, a story, an education on the human race and its faults, freaking developing characters... it's ridiculous how genius those albums are. I can't even put into words how well those albums are made. Only musicians that I know that have even come close to THAT level of brilliance are Greg Gaffin (from Bad Religion), Thomas Kalnoky (from Streetlight Manifesto) and Reynolds and Clewlow (from Enter Shikari).

I agree that Human Equation is probably the best overall, but the 2008 one called 01011001 (ascii Y) has a few good tracks like Newborn Race, Unnatural Selection, and The Sixth Extinction. The rest are sort of forgettable.
Arjen released a preview for the new album. I like it.
Speaking of Greg Graffin, he was like my superhero in high school.
Oh, okay, sounds decent, but if the musical style is wrong for what they are talking about then it doesn't matter. I wouldnt want an upbeat tone talking about rape.... lol, They way the music sounds not just the voice is a large part.
AND FINNALY as for the Hating accents/other languages in music, That was just me rambling, the names of the bands or Artist you posted sounded German.
I stand by it. lol, Its not that I hate people who speak these languages(except in american games on US servers lawl), but it just bothers me in music. because I do like the German Language, just not in games nor music. same with 99% of all other non-english languages.

I'll listen to the full thing later, short on time now, but the first couple of minutes do sound really good... really reminiscent of the older stuff too. The start with Hauer was already a nice one. Will check this out, thanks for the head's up.
In regards to Graffin; same for me, and he still is. If I end up living a life like his, I'll be content with my achievements. He's just one 'type' of person, but if everyone on earth behaved like him and, regardless of vision or ideology, treat human beings the same way he does, we've have a close-to-perfect world.

Then you're focusing on the wrong thing. You're listening to it the wrong way. You don't listen to rap to have it as background music, in the way I'd listen to Daft Punk, Ratatat or Goldfish. You need to listen to the words and figure out what exactly is being said, and think about that - how does it tie in to your beliefs? What exactly does it mean? It's not about the beat - that's just carrying the message. shows clearest what I mean. Background story you need to know: the guy 'rapping' has been in prison for years and has just received his high school diploma, something he studied for inside the prison.

A lot of this depends on the way it's done, too, though. Rammstein sings German and it works perfectly with their style. The contrast between the Germanic hard and sharp consonants and the soft and caring consonants reflect their music. Manu Chao is a Spanish-born French rapper who sings in English, French, Spanish and Arabic. When needed, he also melts those languages together seemlessly. Spinvis is a Dutch artist who'se non-singing way of talking himself through songs works great with the inability of the Dutch language to sound very serious.
Its the first part I know what you mean, but for rap, i guess alot of it is the people who listen to it trashy hood rats, at least around here.
Your from Netherlands
In the Southern states, the majority Over 95% of people who listen to rap are trash, and you think thats just because how I was raised, but im being serious.
Watch the Show hardcore pawn watch the people that come out Thats an exact replication how they act, thats not actors being Melodramatic its how black communities(with the exception of only a couple white people) act in the southern united states,
But yeah I tried listening to their music, because I do have friends that belong to that group well used to... They betray you quickly... But I tried listening to their music "Rap" and its garbage, heres the rap that I hate heres a few artist.
Tu Pac
Snoop Dogg
Young Jeezy
Lil Wayne
Wacka Flocka?
Thats the ones that I hear them stupid idiots yelling out CONSTANTLY
listen to some of their stuff, it will make you want to hate all rap.
I'll admit they aren't the heaviest of songs that I posted, partly because the response I received wasn't similar to my heavier interests and didn't want to kill the thread too early.
Hopefully this should suffice.

I enjoy progressive metal and friends. Preference for clean vocals and instrumentals. http://www.last.fm/user/Los-Tacos
Have you ordered Lost in the New Real yet? Sounds great so far.
And finally, while I'm not going to join in on the taste bashing, I guess I'll justify myself with one video.
Welp, time to post some links I suppose.
Death: Lack of Comprehension
Morbid Angel: Angel of Disease
Electric Wizard: Solarian 13
Electric Wizard Funeralopolis
And of course:
Black Sabbath: Black Sabbath
Edit: Though I don't listen to metal like I used to, but when I did that's what I listened too. Now I listen to prog-rock, classic rock, Impressionism and Medieval-Gregorian Chant. Occasionally I get that itch, though.
