Another humanity-old way to buff up their broken economy!
Libyan economy is far from broken. Their economy is actually quite excellent. The issue is that the majority of the money feeds back into corrupt officials, as is the case in most middle eastern countries.
You'll see this for yourself soon as oil prices have already begun to rise, a testament to just how expansive the Libyan economy is. This did not really happen with Egypt and gas, which is a large gas producing country.
With that said, Gaddafi is a mad hatter and even Arab countries are under the same impression (UAE, Qatar), so I suppose it's all for the best. I'd personally rather the Arab League sort this out rather than western countries (even if that means "loaning" troops and equipment) in order to avoid another Iraq, but it's a little too late for that.
It's a good thing that we don't have troops on ground with us already being in Iraq AND Afghanistan. Just sayin' we dont need to get stretched to thin. :] But yeah, US was firing missiles at some kind of air field in Libya. It was either an airfield or telecommunications tower. It is now a no-fly-zone over there as ordered by the UN. So it would make most sense that we fired at an air tower/field.

That's really what I'm wondering about. In Iraq, mr pretentious Bush went in specifically to 'fix that damn country' and to 'catch those no-good terrorists!' and 'prevent 'm from attackin' the states ever again'. In Libya's case, it's more of the whole UN coming together, deciding "we should put a stop to this" and like you mentioned, 'lending' support. I've got good hope that we won't stick around, and I'm positive that especially Obama won't burn his hands on exactly the same mistake Bush made and get the whole world against him.
The downside is that the alternative seems to be that another oil sheik will take over and continue oppressing the Libyan people. On the other hand, this might not be all bad - there are and have been plenty of good dictators and democracy isn't everything either; and it can't get much worse than Khaddafi. That guy is doing such a good job of lying to himself so desperately that even at the brink of losing everything he'll stand his ground.
@reaper872:
there's not much more..
at the start (not in the picture) they run on ground (pictured as happy senseless people), then creaks appear and everyone happily jumps over and continues on
then bit by bit the platforms become thinner, but the people (happy to be going "somewhere") continue to come pouring in and the platforms become crowded
...
dialogs (from left to right):
"Go on! go on!" "don't push in the back" "hey guys keep going!" "just a minute" "hey but what" "we should know where this is leading"
as the drawing better illustrates... the platforms end up being pikes for the "winners" who manage to get there..
it's an acquired taste i'll admit ;)
ohhh sorry forgot to mention: Franquin never says what/where they were going...
and about the language issue, you should learn... girls love the frenchfrog sweetalking "parley"... that's all french is good for, didn't you know...?
@StatusQ3: tyrants (especially old and "successful") don't disappear easy... he's not the type to let go... like others who leave unscathed to finish their lives in "more discreet" opulent retirement... he's awful but give him that... plus as it has been said HE IS "rightfully" revered by a big part of the army... so it's not just a "one guy" story...
It isn't about smartness of blindness. Do you truly believe someone who can become dictator of a country can be so *stupid* as to simply not grasp that he's not going to win a fight with the rest of the whole damn world? I don't buy it. What's going on is that this man, Khaddafi, is lying to himself. It's easier for him to just say to himself "God's on my side, everything is alright, I'll win" than it is to say "Yeah sorry world I was an asshole and all, I'll make amends and fix stuff now!". And that is the scary/odd part - this guys emotional system is so far down the drain that he'd rather lie about his situation to himself SO badly than just admit he's got no chance. The man isn't necissarily blind, he's just twisted and down all the way to a point you normally only see in torture movies.
