I've wanted an ipad for a while but its a lot of money. Ipad 2 coming out = lower prices for ipad 1. Anybody with an ipad want to share your thoughts on if its good and/or worth the money?

No offense, but I think that they are a bit pricey. Then again, I was never and will never be an Apple person. I would get this thing if I had the need to over an ipad, but of course I don't know too much. I would rather have a motorola xoom but they cost $800.
My step dad owns an iPad. I use it fairly often to play games.
My personal opinion is that it’s really only good for playing games and doing minor functions, for example: using it as a portable calendar, watching Netflix, surfing the web.
I haven’t used it for any other reason than to ones listed. My step dad seems to think it’s god’s gift to mankind.
If you like playing games and downloading apps then it is definitely a good buy. Plus if you have mobile Wi-Fi then you can use it to browse the internet without having to lug a laptop around
Meh. I'm probably being biased here but I seriously think it's overrated. Its just a fad. Once the hype is over its just gonna become a white elephant. Mr Jobs is just really good leaving people wanting more by introducing products with missing features. Giving them the incentive to keep upgrading just for a few changes in firmware/hardware. I mean seriously... Why not just release an Ipad with a camera to begin with. Its pretty mainstream for such devices to have a camera these days.
Overrated, yes. Per definition bad, no. Worth the money? Depends on what you want to do with it. It's great for 'office duties' - being able to check your e-mail and just 'access typical PC functions' anywhere around the house is great. It's terrible for gaming past "I'd like a momentary distraction".
- Early morning web browsing device (very useful for situations like when you just wake up in the morning and don't feel like moving your body too much)
- Casual to mid-core gaming console (i.e.infinity blade)
- Note-taking tools (but not drawing pad)
- Watch movies on car, planes.
- Strong 11 hour battery life (Nobody even come close to this battery power).
- Facetime with your long-distanced girlfriend before bed! Hey trust me, facetime while laying on your bed is much much more intimate and enjoyable!
- The most touch-responsive device yet! Motorola Xoom is not even close. Well, as you know, Android is lagging behind in terms of responsiveness...
- Faster CPU clock processor than Xoom. iPad is A5, which is 1.2GHz dual core. Xoom is only 1GHz dual core. Not sure about graphics tho.
- Very cheap for $499. Nobody can even come close to this price. Nobody. All you need is 16GB WiFi model. Don't buy anything else other than 16GB WiFi. The rest of the models are ripoff! SCAM. S-C-A-M. 16GB WiFi model is the best
- Oh don't forget the 12 month interest free financing! $499 / 12 is basically you're paying $45 a month. No interest!
I would just do WiFi only, and 16GB only. Let me give u my reasoning:
- No File System in iPad. You cannot copy paste file. So no point of buying bigger capacity unless you are apps whore who downloads thousands of apps, music, movies... Unlikely for most imo. Music you only need to create playlist of 100 favorite songs. Movies live HD streaming nowadays. Apps, only plenty are high quality. 16GB is enough imo
- Adding 3G = adding $150 to the device cost, and adding $240-480 annual cost by subscribing data plan to network provider. Is it worth it? I don't think so. Most likely you are using an iPad in a place where you can sit down, and most likely those places have WiFi, i.e. office, Starbucks, home all have WiFi. Also 3G is freaking slow!!
- You most likely already have smartphones with 3G data plan. You can make that phones a WiFi hotspot. No need to pay additional $240-480 per year imo.
Mac stuff is good, but overpriced. If you want a UI a lot like Mac, there's probably a Linux version. For Ipad, it looks good, but looks very overpriced and can't do as much as a laptop. Even a macbook has more features. So yeah, macs are good but overpriced, Windows is bad but commonly used and Linux is awesome and free ^^
Thanks, that was what I was thinking. As for my phone, I have a small baby sized data plan from Verizon. I doubt I could broadcast wifi with that. (It has like a 10 megabite per month limit and my phone cant use wifi for some reason). Thanks for the advice, guys.
I prefer PCs, although I have never owned a mac. This is just because they can do a lot more and have more games/options available. And they're way cheaper :D Ipad does work with a PC right? You dont need a mac to sync it up and everything? (I hope lol.I cant afford a new mac and and ipad).
Also can you move files from your ipad to computer, or somehow get rid of unwanted games/files but add them back for free if needed.

Anybody know if its possible to move unwanted apps/pictures/documents off the ipad and then put them back later? Like if you start to run out of room, can you move apps you payed for onto your computer or something but then get them back for free later?

AFAIK any app you bought will always be registered to your iTunes account and re-downloadable for free (assuming you can access it ofc :))
I've ordered an iPad 2, should be here in a few weeks (once they clear the backlog of everyone else's orders :P). It seems that there's basically 3 camps on the iPad:
Love it, use it for tons of stuff, think it's the bee's knees
Don't really get why people like it, have little use for it myself
Hate it on principle because it's an Apple device and apple is from hell (slight exaggeration, but... ;))
I'm in the second camp. Can't really see why anyone would need one. Looks like an overly large Iphone to me. Only without the phone part. However, I haven't used one, or know anyone who has one, so i'm definitely not going to be hating on it xD. I try not to be prejudiced on things I haven't tried yet. Apart from CoD >:(. That whole series can go to hell as far as i'm concerned ^^.
I think people underestimate the utility of a touch interface. It's insanely better than using a mouse/keyboard to surf (save those few times when you want to write a diatribe on some forum :P), it brings a number of unique opportunities for gaming (like for boardgames), and it just offers a nicer experience to me than using a trackpad and keyboard.
The touch interface also has secondary benefits, like being able to make the device thinner because you don't need to pack a keyboard or trackpad or any of that with it. Plus, it's basically the size and weight of a medium book, but it can hold hundreds, so if you're a reading nerd its great for that.

The xoom was another one I was looking at. But its way more expensive than an Ipad lol. And I can barely afford the cheapest model ipad ($400)

hahahaha, for me that title goes to the gaming laptop. Too bad I don't own one, yet... If you want to know, this is the beast I want to use.

I got one!
Pros: Read your email (and send short emails), lots of apps, good at web browsing (not better then computer)
Cons. It Costs $400, People think the XOOM that costs twice as much is better

I'm a bit confused with your grammar. Are you saying that the xoom IS better or that people just think its better because it costs more?

@Maknyuzz:
You think the wifi model is the best? I was kind of debating 16 wiki or 16 with wifi + 3g. Because what If I end up wanting 3g and can't get it .=0
But you bring up good points.

"i don't support mac" never bought any of their tech. i've used them all before though. and i wouldn't waste money on a ipad seems pointless.

If I had extra money to burn I might consider getting one. But, if you don't have a solid laptop already that would be a better investment.
