@CrazyTwigman: Go Exaclty most maps published right now lack How To Play info. I gave clear instructions and still players say it's too complicated. How can it be complicated when all you have to do (besides playing it as a melee game) is selecting a few more things in your pylon/spawning pool/supply depot?
I know how you feel >.< In my signature is my trailer, and when you watch that, it sorta seems a bit basic >.< But oh well, these people make blizzard money, so blizzard must be on right track :P
Ohhh just got one more bug, and this one is fucking stupid. I checked enUS and ptBR as locales for a new map. Then I switched to ptBR and opened the Text editor to change everything. But the name I typed for my map was also applied to enUS. I published it and now I cant fix the name, because the map must match all names of the previous version.
I think reviews will be better when Arcade is released as those retards who cant even read help info, wont post reviews without getting free beta key...
Dumb people is the majority on every community so you must spend a lot of time to dumb things down for them.
They won't read any kind of instruction, maybe they could play the tutorial but I'm not so confindent.
That's why the only reason to appeal to bnet players is to make things easy to understand while playing!
I cant believe this, they fixed the slow syntax highlighting within the editor, what speeds up the compiler error detection by a factor of like 100.
Best patch ever.
I didnt think this would ever happen. Until now i have to wait 2 minutes if i have a script error in SCU because the script is so big, right now its about 10 seconds. Awesome.
Now they just need to fix the slow trigger library GUI together with the record-variable-reset bug, then im happy. :D

Blaming the players for not playing your game has a touch of backwards thinking...
You don't have to dumb things down to make a map playable. Think of it like a meal; even the greatest dish ever prepared will be awful if you shove it all at once into someone's face. You need to pace the content, break it down into layers so that only one layer needs to be learnt at once.
Furthermore it should be playable with only one layer of learned, while gently introducing deeper layers as content for players who have already mastered the first layer. I've played so many maps that just dump all the layers of play on your head and expect you to care enough to learn them.

I think that worked to some degree with RuneCraft. I got very little amount of "Dafuq do I need to do?" reviews (I think it was only one). A lot of people said it had a steep learning curve, but those rated the map with 4 or 5 stars because they were able to play the map the first time (Simple tug mechanics) and saw the potential of it and played it again.
But then again, its a bloody tug. And the only reason it uses sc2 units is so that players wouldnt be utterly confused because they dont know wtf each custom unit does. Most people here make maps that are not "standard", they want to make something more unique. Yea, its usually based off something, like Hive Keeper is based off Dungeon Keeper, but that isn't as effective as basing it off something all sc2 players know like Nexus Wars or any of the DotA spinoffs.
Lets hope that once 1.5 gets released, all the idiots that refuse to read both the Arcade and in-game tutorials will have the decency not to rate and review.
I fear that when the arcade will be online on the normal server dumb players will increase by 90%.
Consider that only the fact that the arcade beta requires to install a standalone client automatically filters all lazy players from it. We are getting only the "best" part of the community right now :|
Yeah, my maps have a 2 star rating, not because anyone thinks its a bad game, but because they cant figure out how to play.
I put Instructions on what to do, chop the trees to power your spells and expand your buildable space. Defeat your enemies that lurk on the other side of the forest.
How hard is that? Other then the Tree chopping its a basic Melee death match.
Ya you have to consider the fact that the vast majority of players are teenagers. You have to make it as easy as possible for them to understand. Write short simple directions in bullets on the loading screen in bright colors, put a few quick UI message displays at the start telling them how/where to start off. I dont have such a problem with this as the one map i have is very simple.
And another thing, does anyone else get offended when someone gives their map a bad review? I do, but mainly when the critisim is unfounded and they dont explain their claim or provide evidence for it, which is often the case.
Judging from what I'm hearing here, it seems like there's a lot of persons going around playing maps and just rating them whatever(1 in this case) with no explanation, just to try and get into the beta?
In that case, the fact that I haven't published my map yet might be a good thing.
The data from the beta server will be wiped as everyone there comes from the different realms (US, EU, ...). It would be to much work to split and push the info on the according realms especially, if the maps can't be published globally.

Stupid bugged editor is stupid.
Arcade Beta is back! With 600mb patch!

I think arcade gives enough tools to teach players how to play even complex maps.
If they do not want to read/learn then they most likely wont like the map even if they knew how to play. Some people just want simple things.
My map gets 1 and 5 star ratings. So its enough to see some enjoy it, as do I. But I also understand that its not a game for everyone.
And of course its part of a good design to make things easy to learn and use, even if its a complex map.

@Bibendus: Go I think the same. After release it wont get any better, but at least people wont review just to get a HoTS beta key.
EDIT: Does anyone know the size of screenshot images used by the arcade info?
@SoulFilcher I believe it is 800 by 600
Sounds about right, it has to be exactly that though..

I do... when the criticism, is garbage or there are no words, such as, your map sucks... and thats it.
I have 23 reviews, and over 16 of them dont even have words, and are just 1 star...
