@missile17: Go Extension mods are applied to the maps in Custom Games section only, so basically they are applied to melee maps.
The point is that melee modifications, or any kind of game that doesn't relly too much on the map and its terrain, can be applied to several different maps without the need to publish them all.
One good example is Maverck's SC2BW mod. The idea is to give players the original BW tech tree in melee games. So far Maverck has been forced to publish tons of maps, each one using his mod. Now with this feature you can use his mod with any melee map. The author only needs to keep the mod itself updated.
The idea is good for balance tests for example, as the changes can be tested with any map. And also good for things like Husky's Imba League if you ever watched one of those.
So I think Nexus Wars wasn't a good example, since it needs a specific terrain for it.
Looks like this is the only thread talking about extension mods so far, so I'll ask my question here.
It seems evident to me that triggers should play a pretty huge role in many extension mods, but so far I haven't gotten them to work.
When copying triggers from old maps, the paste function is unresponsive.
I can import trigger libraries, but they don't register when testing the document.
The new trigger button itself is grayed out.
Has anybody had success with working triggers in an extension mod? If so, was there something special you did to enable them?
I have read 30 posts about extension mods but im still not understanding what the point of it is?
lets say i have a custom game. called nexus wars how can i use extension mods to help my game???

I answered my own question.
First, you can only create triggers for an extension file if you've first created a library for them.
Second, the map file you pick to test them should be melee, or at least have Melee Initialization in its triggers.
Thanks Gannicus. That's what i needed to get me started.
