Interesting changes. I cannot really tell if its good or not (probly better than previous system atleast).
I dont think theres need to have "join random map" or stuff like that. If there was only like 5 most played maps on their own page, rest of the maps would rotate, you could search and favourite your maps, it would be better imo....
I am having issues joining the ptr, can someone shine light on how to get on? I fixed the looping, but now it says "The PTR is not ready yet, which would be fine by me, but i have seen posts of people getting on the ptr.
After the recent post on the Custom Map section of Blizzard's forum, I felt like things were getting better. Although it took them a while, they let us know we weren't forgotten.
After downloading the PTR it has really reassured me that they have been listening and I am really looking forward to seeing it on live. Admittedly, it would have been nice to have this at release, but we have this to look forward to now.
In a few short years I doubt most people will remember the popularity system as it is now, but I'm not saying that nobody will though.
Yeah, I have to agree. I didn't like the way the Blizzard employee who was working on Left 2 Die went on about it at Blizzcon.
Back in Warcraft 3 there were quite a few awesome maps didn't have forums and all of that zazz, but they were popular because they were fun. Some of these maps did have websites, but only for distribution of the latest version.
Looks pretty promising. The bookmark thing is the best, no doubt. Now, if only you could show it to the public, so you advertise yourself when people look at your profile... well, looks great anyway. Seems Blizzard got concerned at last :).
I don't see how this system helps. While you can much more easily find maps you've heard of, players are still exposed to no more maps they don't know about than previously.
The Fun or Not will not help that much with 1000's of maps. Without categories for each type of map, this entire effort is futile.
"Advertise your map"
I'm very sick of that. Not everyone is social. Not everyone is arrogant and willing to spam their work everywhere. Not everyone wants to approach mapping with marketing and advertising in mind. Especially because the type of person to make a map is likely not the type of person who gives a shit about those things.
Yes, you can join games of maps you know of. But the problem still exists of finding those maps in the first place.
Obviously it isn't perfect. But you should be glad its a step in the right direction.
Blizzard is always going to do it blizzards way. If you think they'll go to the old system or follow mappers' suggestions to the letter, you'll always be disappointed. I, for one, am glad the change came so soon. I knew it was coming but.. Wow, already?
Vexal is right here. I think Blizzard still has not seen the real problem. The problem is not that we cannot find maps we want to play. I would like to find maps which I want to play and others want to play at the same time.
So with wc3 I basically had two options: Either I could choose one of the maps which others wanted to play or I would just choose one specific map I wanted and create a game for it which could be seen by other players.
Even with the new sc2 system I still cannot do that. Still nobody can see games I created so I have to search for players by myself.
So I think Blizzard should just replace the most popular list with a recently hosted list where recently created games are shown in reverse order (oldest games first). That way you could play any game you want as you would be on the top of the list after waiting some minutes and you would stay there until enough players have joined your game.

Yep, not perfect yet. But big improvements because everything is on the Join list now:
1. Bookmarked maps are a separate tab on the Join List
2. Recently Played maps (By you) is on the Join List
3. Search for the Join List
This is important because if you create a lobby, you are separated from all of the other players creating lobbies. If everyone uses the Join list, they'll all go into the same lobby and get playing. Its INCREDIBLY easy to join un-popular maps now. Search for it, bookmark it, and then just always join it from the bookmark list.
AND you no longer have to click Show More!! Its separated by pages, and you can skip to whatever page you want.
Also, the "Up and Comming" and "Fun or not fun" lists have potential to be helpful was well.
Hey guys, could any of you who can access the PTR servers give me a screenshot of how the grandmaster icon (and the changed icons in general) look? Im quite interested in those. Thx in advance

Does anyone know if the "Fun or Not" is completely random. I'm not talking about true randomness.
What I mean is, there's tons of maps on battle.net(Let's take 1000 as an example) if we currently got 1000 people joining "Fun or Not", they will be distributed randomly over these games where most people will join an empty lobby where they will be lonely.
A solution to this(it might already work like this, I don't know) would be to, when a player joins "Fun or Not", only put him in a random game if all other "Fun or Not" games are filled.
Example: We got player A, B and C and map 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 The maps are two-player maps.
So, Player A joins a "Fun or Not" game. Battle.net randomly picks map 4 for him and puts him in the lobby. Now player B also joins a "Fun or Not" game. Instead of picking a random map for him to play, it starts with filling the map 4 lobby so player B joins the lobby for game 4.
Since it's a two player map, it's now full and when player C decides to play "Fun or Not", he wont be put in the map 4 lobby since it's full. Instead, battle.net will pick a random map for him to play. He ends up with map 1.
Its INCREDIBLY easy to join un-popular maps now. Search for it, bookmark it, and then just always join it from the bookmark list.
What is the point in joining un-popular maps when you are still alone in the game. It is still very unlikely that someone else will join the same unpopular map as you do at the same time. A majority will not even know that this map exists and everybody else will not know that someone else wants to play the map right now.
Don't get me wrong, I also think 1.3 is an improvement but I also think that blizzard does not see the main problem.

good, so we can fight each other again and criticize each other's map :)
zzzz... just wasted 4 hours patching and i'm getting this problem too. with the annoying crash .dll sound playing each time.

My first reaction was "hell, already april 1th?" , then I realized I was wrong :-D
They really listened to a lot of us and improved. This system may not be perfect, but it's way better than the previous. Thanks.

Promising. Sad that we can't test on EU. :(

Aren't there any undocumented changes? I can't get the patch and 1.3 mpq. I hope blizz opens the ptr for other region. everyeverytime for NA server
Let's be fair .. or they test it "home" first or they rotate... fuuuu...
It'll always be the same thing.. i sorta made my piece with it.. :)

They tier up pretty much the same way for all leagues, that I know of. (Only checked bronze - Diamond)
