Im not yet sure how to take the new system. At first it seems bad for me but we shall see...
Reasons why its bad:
lower maps still wont get played without boosting
rotating will be slow? and no search function
Good sides:
Atleast maps rotate a bit
I still think there is lot to do...It really sucks that you cant name the maps, but you can still create as many games as you want on bnet with game variants or different publish name, so I wonder how is this removing the same map "problem" that wc3 had.
oh well I will give it some time before giving my final judgement -.-
Wow... noob mistake... unbelievable... just do bigint. Integer only consumes very small bytes anyway compared to char. its already very small why bother? Disk space is very cheap nowadays.
Everyone is confused about the 1.2 popularity system. But after the events of last night, and the seemingly "volatile" system, it seems that the system is slower today. While some may say ponder this with confusion, I understand what is the happenings of this system. The popularity system is in fact a loop/popularity hybrid. The system works like a loop, the popularity caps at 17 and from there goes down the list, resetting popularity. Perhaps the reset is total, perhaps not. However, the popularity system can be volatile, and very slow, depending on when the most custom gamers are on. Regardless, the popularity system now is immune to boosting, cheating the list, and other such things, since it is impossible to maintain stable popularity after a certain time. The list is based on two things, how many times the map is played, which is likely a much lower number now, and how many times the top map is going down to the bottom. The best part of the list, however, is that it is so unpredictable about what games you will get. When the map search features come out, it will be easier, but for now, this will hold us over till blizzard's next big content patch. For now, this is a good change, and it won't give way to boosting, or anything of the like.
One more thing, if you have any questions, my sc2 name and code is now UloseTheGame.140(cheers!) See ya mapster community!

Are you a programmer at Blizzard?
Seriously, that system was a epic fail, and it will be a epic fail, since blizzard is such a retarded company, they won't be able to create a working system at all.
I have enough of this system and of "the system will change" announcements. It wont change, It wont work.
I agree with you Ulose... with search this will actually be a huge step forward... and already is right now. And for people like Vexal they need a 'What's Hot' tab haha!
I would settle for "this map has made it to the top x times". It doesn't even have to be on the meter. It could be in the author's profile, or something.
Remember the ultralisk bug that extended the AoE radius by the unit length, the one that killed an entire mineral line if an ultra attacked the PF? I wouldn't put it past them to make mistakes like the pop sys right now...
Anyway, i either hope they never notice or never fix it.
lol this is weird today when i joined my map had 5 hours and was way down there they i get in and start game to see if it goes(was in for just 10 mins) up i leave and went to see and it had 4 hours then i go in game again for 30 mins i go out to see what changed and it had 3 hours.. wtf each time i play it goes 1 hour down xDD

Using a biginteger for everything would be an even more "noob" mistake.
In any case, I can see how this would happen. The PTR wasn't very popular and it's unlikely they even noticed once it happened. Maybe they were originally going to store it in hours and not seconds, and then they changed it and it never caused any issues in PTR.
Stop giving Blizzard a hard time. If anything, they learned something from this: we like more volatile popularity.

I refuse to believe they are that bad technically to make such a mistake. Maybe there are different credentials on the bnet team.
The worst is that they already had a problem with integers back in beta, I remember it, don't know exactly what, but I think it's not the first time.
Incredible O_O.
Well, i like the new system. Maps keep running around faster, its easier to get your map high in popularity, and ive got more choice to play
Better than what we had before, but still needs a lot of work

Maybe they intentionally did this because they wanted maps to cycle. I mean Blizzard doesn't have the best programmers but they can't be THIS bad.
Now like OneTwo said, if they added a Search function...
Why do they refuse to add a search function for join games list!? There's already one for Create games, why not Joining?

Who cares if it's intended or not, it's awesome.
Although seems Blizzard has to make bugs to make stuff awesome lol xDDD.

This system is in your eyes awesome?
Now I'm really starting to cry...

lol my map has been switching from first page to the oblivion like thousand times xD

I like the non-system, "system".. whatever you will call it, a lot of random maps, ftw! Not exactly perfect but it beats nexus wars.
Confirmed as a bug: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/1869410024
