Testing: I hosted "Toxic Slums" for a minute (public game, me only), and after quitting and going back to the popularity list, the map already had 9 mins (meaning people must have seen it instantly when i hosted and joined their own games of it to make 9 mins total). I like that it's instantaneous now.
Q: Can I publish maps to the PTR? Is there a PTR version of the StarCraft II Editor?
A: At this time, we are not including the StarCraft II Editor as part of the PTR process. There will be no player-created maps on PTR.
Sorry but with out player created maps i don't see the point in it for me....
You're right. Only go on the PTR if you want to use chat channels. But the new popularity seems cool, especially for longer maps. Right now we can only test it with blizz maps though. Really though, can just wait for 1.2 and ignore PTR haha (as custom mappers).
I still dont think that this popularity system is better than the w3, but this is a huge improvement!
(they should add a option to list the maps similar to w3.)
@Hookah604:
TOTALLY! I'm pretty excited as the map list will probably change quite a bit. I'm guessing SOTIS will rise way above now (it survived popularity BEFORE while it was still a long map and 10 players).
I like making 12 player maps so now it's worthwhile to do it! There's nothing like full-house games :D
@wOlfLisK:
What we don't know is whether it's counting on a per player or per game basis. E.g. would 14 players playing in one game count the same as 14 games of that map each with 1 player.
All we know is that it's time-based.
Don't know what to say about this "new" system.
It could work, but I still can't believe it.
The problem with the old system was, that when the maps were at the top of the list they couldn't be taken down, so basically its now the same.
When the first page is full, everybody will join the first page, so you still can only play maps showed on the first page, so how is this system better?
This system is the same shit since its always like: 1. Page 2. Page 3. Page.....

Bounty has just found out that popularity is time-based now: http://tinypic.com/r/e8jote/7
Interesting... what is the mathematical implications of this?

Time based now? Woot!
Also, what is PTR?
@Vlaeder: Go
Public Test Realm
I see.
Is it part of SC2 or...?
If there's a thread about it, you can link me there. Haven't been here in a while, so I haven't kept up with the news. =\
EDIT: Nevermind, found patch notes on it. Thanks anyways.

That screenshot shows the popularity system as time based, but I don't see what was shown in the screenshot, on my end. =\
Definitely better than what we have now.
A step in the right direction.
My map will be super popular oh my god. (http://www.sc2mapster.com/maps/warring-factions/)

Long epic games now will receive the recognition they deserve
hm 2100 games per hour, 6 players, 15 minutes per game = 3150 hours per hour
nexus eu has about 4500 * 4 * 15 = 4500 hph
So now people will just afk with their maps open?
@Ultimaswc3: Go
keeping it open will you only grant 60 minutes played per hour, not much, even harder to push your map yourself
@b0ne123: Go
14 players afk for an hour = 840 mins. Enough to get you up to page 2/3 or so.
Excellent! Now longer maps have a shot!
