Any chance a moderator could get in touch with Curse to help us combat the spam?
I know we are the bastard child of Curse, but we do generate traffic for them as well as have their logo at the bottom of this page. Be nice if there was some more steps to become a member that could cut down on the bot traffic.
I was thinking the same thing since i been seen 2 spam treads a day its getting ridiculous, not i dont mine getting a new kitchen ones in a while !!! :-) We need a better system to vote what is spam when you go report it we dont even have the option except "other"
We've been in this exact situation before, people have posted this exact topic before, we've had more direct contact with Curse before, nobody really knows what came out of that back then and now we're in the situation we're in now.
I'm not one to say Curse doesn't give a shit about us or anything, but the mods have already tried pretty much all they can at some point. Curse probably hasn't, but on the flip-site spambots evolve as fast as captcha's, and you can really only temporarily tone down bots reliably. The only forums you'll find without any spam at all are those where people have to pay for an account, or those owned by bigger publishers who have enough money to hire people to watch the boards 24/7.
Not to hate on the topic or anything, but it's very much a dead end.

Credit to Curse for keeping the site up, though. I seriously doubt they make a profit from hosting sc2mapster and the whole StarCraft 2 map download service.
Sixen still updates the blog too despite having moved on to other things, even after pretty much 2 years of site inactivity.
This has been said before too, though as I recall it was Sixen himself who then explained to me that at this point keeping mapster up barely costs Curse anything. I may be wrong as my memory's far from perfect, but that's my take on that. I don't hate Curse either way. Mapster is what it is, and there's too little activity to change much.

I'm one to say it, because it's true, and has always been true. Mapster has hardly changed since it was first created. I could go on to say about the curse (ho ho!) of using "our software" when no one has any devotion to actually working on it because I dealt with that for over a decade in Brood War modding, but yeah. No one cares about previous experience.
Turn on moderator preview for first time posters if your forum software even allows it. If not, maybe whoever is still an admin should consider upgrading to something semi-modern.
As Curse is an advertisement company, their revenue is at the point where Mapster's existence doesn't even register on their radar financially.
The issue is that once an advertisement is deleted the title of it is still visible from the forum list under "Last post" until another post is made in a different topic. This means that the advertisement could still be working for several hours or even days after the message has been physically removed.
If there is no way to hide the "Last post" of the advertisement thread then I would recommend subtlety bumping another legitimate thread just so the advertisement title is removed from Last post display. It might be possible that posting and immediately deleting would work for bumping without leaving a message.
Advertisement robots generally pickup around December and die down by February, just like people's money. An exception being around US presidential elections where political advertisement robots start up and attack.

Just pm a mod if you see spam and they will remove it. Most span is limited to the off-topic board it seems which is one I do not patrol regularly.

Legitimate thread bump
Still alive and kicking, just busy.
My guide to the trigger editor (still a work in progress)
Ok I am not only deleting the offending threads but editing the posts to exclude any web links.
