I'm trying to set this up as an event but am having trouble finding the right phrasing to make this work. I'm fairly sure I want Unit Enters/Leaves Range of Unit" but then I am forced to choose between options that reference specific units within unit groups (like unit 1 or a random unit) rather than ANY unit in the group).
You would probably need to register the events for the trigger dynamically (which is only possible using galaxy script). Afaik, you cannot register an event like "any unit comes within range of any unit" which would be required otherwise, also, this would potentially trigger a LOT.
Or, if the units in your unit group are on the map at map initialization, you can select each of the units individually and register the event for them. If they are not, you cannot register them in Gui anyway.
You can still make a distance calculation for each unit of your group, in a trigger on a timed event every 0.0 seconds.
Another solution, is to perform this test only when a unit moves.
But that is not a good solution if you have a lot of units to test as it will slow your map.

Use data for periodic searches. Cause a dummy effect on the unit which triggers one of your trigger events. Do what you need to do then.
@Ahli634: Go
Thanks team. Problem solved.
