hey guys, I have a problem with my Terrain. I experimented a little with some Terrain Objects because I wanted to find like decorations. Burned out Commander centers, Crashed Battlecruisers or demolished Tanks. Anything that would make the map more awesome ;)
When I found something that just made a big fat black hole into the ground I deleated it. But whenever I edit anything near that thing, let's say, raise the cliff, the black thing returns. I got a picture for you.
The arrow indicates what Stuff I tried out when this happened. I can't select and deleat this thing. How do I make it go away? :P
My terrainer had the same problem. I think in the end he just copied some normal area over the "bugged" area...
This is a serious issue because everytime we would save the map this black doodad would COPY itself and eventually we realized that we had 512 of them, which decreased the loading time of the terrain editor by minutes, exponentially rising...
Those are to show and hide terrain cells, used only in rare instances to literally hide the terrain. The button beside it has that tiny green + sign, click on that, then paint over your black area. It will un-hide your terrain.
Alternatively, the button with the red square will delete terrain cells, go ahead and paint that and watch your terrain disapear!
The thing is, it may be caused by the some bug. You can unhide these cells, but the next time you open the map or change the height with cliff tool, it would reset again. If you unhide the cells and the problem still persists, you should scrap your map and transfer all made data/triggers to another. Or it can cause severe problems to your map.
I also had a floating terrain object, that didn't have any point underneath it or anywhere near. It caused massive fps drops. Then, I also had these black fields. And, some time after, I found some random terrain objects without any model in the editor/game. And they were duplicating itself every save that I made. Made me copy the 256x256 map to another one :D
Oh dear. Okay. Well I just painted over it now so nobody sees it. I won't change the map layout that much anyway anymore :P
btw.. I know this is wrong forum but I don't want to open a new thread for this: How do I customise the Help menu. Like when you press F12 you have the glossary with all your units and the tips and tech trees. Is there a manager to customise all that, kick units out of the glossary and add Tips for e.g. Changelogs?
Or do I have to do all that manually in Data editor somewhere? --
Phew... I just saved my work by replacing textures. My original texture set was Mar Sara. Then I changed my textures to Belshir and then again back to Mar Sara. That fixed my map. (Map - Map textures...-menu)
I don't know exactly what causes or fixes it but I think all kind of data editing helps such as modify height field and things like that.
I think the black holes go away if you place another terrain object on/near them and then undo (ctrl+z) the action. I remember having the same problem and I believe that was how I fixed it.

Thank you in advance
Make sure you've got equal cliff level all along the area, then restart the editor :D

@SpaceKookie: Go
See the two buttons beside "add terrain object" ?

That's the tip menu iirc. I think it's done in the trigger editor.
I didn't find anything. And when searching for anything that contains the word "tip" the search function just gives back garbage -.-
@Topic: (Auto-)backups and version control systems (SVN, Git, ...) are the only way to deal with such problems.
