- You don't need to duplicate Actors, just go to Events + and copy everything that has the unit name in it and change that unit name into your copy
- You only need to duplicate things you'll actually change, in example if you want 2 marines and let 1 deal 10 dmg and 1 deal 5 dmg then you do need to duplicate the weapon and damage effect.
What do you mean copy everything that has the unit name in it?
I can't figure out how to get a single actor to link with multiple units.
The way I mainly duplicate things is the main actor, the main model, the weapon, and the weapon's daamge effect. I duplicate the main model in case I want to change the physical appearence of the duped unit (like making it look bigger compared to the original). Hope that isn't too much of duplication.
Well I think the idea behind having an actor only link to one unit is to maintain modularity even if you aren't going to change anything, because you don't know if you're going to end up changing it in the future for something else, or if someone else wants to change it.
How do copy stuff in the Event+ field? Neither right-clicking nor ctrl+C/V does it. If by "copying" you mean to manually recreate all the events then just duplicating the actor is a lot easier (and less prone to silly mistakes like missing a "Start" string in your event)

I only duplicate stuff that I need to actually change from the original. Duplicating everything is a huge mistake because it makes things 20 times harder to comb through when actually adding or finding something you need. However I prefer to duplicate actors because they are very much like a gatekeeper since so many other things are linked through them. I simply rename the actors to match my unit making them easy to find.
i completely agree. at first duplicating everything as people said, it just made a MESS of things. especially when youre learning at the start. i wound up with like 10 'marine death copy' and some of the units would use copy # 10 in conjunction with an ator of copy #6 etc.... not a big thing when you start to really understand it, but i agree, duplicating just mucks things up. unless i KNOW im going to duplicate that exact object (and lately ive gotten to where i just make a custom parent value and its much better than way IMO, understanding it better) i just use the copy function. after its copied it still functions the same, and if you want to customize a certain aspect, just duplicate that specific aspect at that point and redirect your unit to use the new duplicatedd PART and not ENTIRE set. anyways, im rambling, i AGREE!
@ bibendus yeah thats basically what i do. make a unit, copy the actor, tag the copy of the actor to the unit i made then, run with it from there. so i dont have random copies of things im not customizing just yet. then i work it out from there without editing any of the original parent values.
Through mass duplication, I actually was able to SOMEHOW make a correctly burrowed unit based off a Hydralisk. However, for most of my stuff that I do now, I don't duplicate much. Single objects are nice to duplicate, but sometimes, like in the case of Psionic Storm, if you dupe it completely, you won't get the effects, range circle, etc. So, yeah, mass duplication is mostly bad.
Also, if you're not careful, you can REALLY mess up the original units.
I don't understand, let's say I want to make 2 different units based on interceptors, so I duplicate the interceptor unit twice and change everything I need on each of the duplications... is this mass unnecesary duplication? if it's not, when is it mass pointless duping?
too true friend. I messed up my zergling's weapon once. I deleted all modified crap and tried to get it back and it still says roach - claws. Fun times.

Really, people, stop the mass duplication.

I think you can just duplicate the unit and the actor, all the rest should be associated automatically to the new unit
