but how do you promote it, when you use create game no1 will join because it is 0 games/hour, i want the old warcraft system back without most populair maps only and without host bots when make the list full of crape just maps people host and like enough to wait for people to join
For some back ground, I spent 2 months literally working everyday to release a very polished and fun map to play that is 8v8. Everyone that has played it has loved it. The problem is, even as fun as it is, no one joins because no one knows about it.
I did everything I could to promote my map. I posted on this forum multiple places, bnet forum, sc2campaigns forum. I don't see how it will "rise" in popularity if no one wants to scroll a million times to join a game.

Blizzard deleted the first tutorial. This is a second post, but it might soon be deleted, too.
Popularity system is the number of hosts played for more than 5 minutes in a period of about 12 hours.
So, if you want a map to be in the first page, you have to follow some steps:
1. The map has to playable. It doesn't have to be good as long as the title is good.
2. Every week Blizzard resets the popularity during the night. So, wait 1 week and stay awake at night waiting for Blizzard to reset the popularity. When the popularity gets reseted, you play the map by yourself.
3. You have to stay inside the map for 5 minutes. Just load the map, set an alarm clock that beeps every 5 minutes (or do a map beep using triggers after 5 minutes). Then, you can minimize the game and go do other stuff in the computer.
4. Go eat something or take a short nap. Come back after the 5 min, quit the game and host again. Everytime you do that, it will give +1 popularity for the next 12 hours.
5. If you have a brother to help you, it will be good. You can do that with the guest passes. So, ask your brother and your sister to help you boosting the map in their computer. If they help you, it's 3x faster.
6. Since it's night time, less people are playing. If you do that the whole night, you get your map on the first few pages. Then, other people will see the map and play. If the map is playable, it will go up to the first page and stay there forever. You then can go to sleep and you don't have to boost again anymore. When Blizzard resets popularity again, you don't have to worry because your map would be already popular.
Hint: That might be hard for big maps. Popularity does only count per host, and not per number of players. So, a single-player 5 minutes map gets the same popularity as a 12-players 2 hours map. Therefore, maps with more than 4 players and more than 10 minutes gameplay might not be able to get to the 1st page.
Some map makers didn't want to reveal this (the ones whose maps are in the first page). However, I think every map maker should know this. I hope I have contributed.
Edit: I believe Blizzard will soon change it to 6-7 min, you know why.
If I disappear, it's because I was banned. At least, I know I'm helping map makers because I don't think it's fair that just 50% of the map makers know this. Everyone has the right to know!
I managed to get it up to 78 games. If you hit show more about 4 times it's there.
I can't believe how long and ridiculous this is to have to do. It's now 7am and have literally been doing this non stop for I don't even know how many hours.
Check it out, have some fun, hopefully this wasn't a wasted effort :o
Yeah this system is really poorly thought out. I'm glad they're scrapping it though.
I saw a quote on the Starcraft II Official Forums some time ago that said Blizzard was working on an alternative method for displaying games becasue the popularity system 'isn't quite what they really wanted'.
The quote said they intended to change the system soon...hopefully it's true :S.
Surely put any maps being hosted with spaces in a lobby at the top, then list maps with no lobby's underneath ranked by popularity.
Then at least if your trying to host your brand new map it can get some attention.
I was reading the link in Bone123's post (by the way thanks for that) and I discovered that the popularity system was even more crappy than I had previously thought. Plus the 5 min or more thing would be a real killer of short maps that are like SURVIVE FOR 1 MINUTE or really hard maps that could be cut short by all the loosing. I don't remember who said this first but it would be nice if it was an OPTION. May b they could even make a couple of options like maps being hosted now or in alphabetical order. All in all I agree that the popularity system should either be scrapped or put as an option. (If anyone finds a post by blizzard saying that they plan on changing the popularity system please make sure it is posted on the news ASAP =D)
I don't understand this popularity system and I think it's garbage :(
How are people getting the maps they make popular? I've tried everything I can think of to promote my map with no luck...
Need some tips to get around this retarded popularity system
http://forums.sc2mapster.com/general/general-chat/10446-graph-battle-net-popularity/
read it, there are some good tips as well on page 2 at the bottom
The best way is to have a well done map which is fun to play ;)
You have to promote it a bit and push it in popularity when it's released as no one will play a map with 0 games/hour
From there, if your map is good, it will rise in popularity.

This system needs to just die, it's bs.
The key thing blizzard needs to do for SC2 is bring back a Warcraft 3 style custom games menu. That simple and easy. -.-
Some guy on the blizzard forums has a pretty detailed post on the topic http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/627976335#1

That's helpful and I've been testing it out, and it does work.
I'm doing it right now actually. Would anyone be interested in helping me boost the map for hosting it for 5 min then leaving?
It's pretty easy as the game has a countdown clock so when it hits 25 min left you leave and it gives +1.
Blizz deleted that tutorial. Guess what happened? About 20 people re-posted it. Lol. Map makers REBELLION!!
Said short, go download some macro program that can create the game continously while you are sleeping ;)
fx http://www.macro-expert.com/ works perfectly
this + multiple accounts = pushbots
(you can use the 7hour demo account to push? xD)
This is an entirely depressing but completely predictable and justified result of the popularity system.
@Fellius: Go It's solid "solving problems by making new ones"
For anyone wanting to help me boost this map's popularity by hosting games:
You can find it by doing one of two things.
1= Go to create game, then type in "team fort" and create the game that way, make sure you OPEN the game to the public for it to count.
2= On the join custom game, click the "show new only" button and it's about 2 "show more" clicks down
Oh the map in question is "Team Fortress: Citadel"
name it nexus wars.
That guy who made the "tutorial" is funny. Sounds like he's trying to make himself a martyr
