Ok first of all, I wans't sure where to put this so I put it here.
If anyone of you guys remember, maps in Island Defense, Tree Tag, etc, have a massive amount of trees as wood. In SC2, I'm trying to rebuilt Island Defense 2.8.5 and I ended up having around 3700 trees (minerals). There is no lag in game (so far anyways) but you can only see about 1/3 of the minerals on the minimap. You also cannot see anyone else's unit on the minimap. I assume this is because I have exceeded maximum units allowed to be shown on the minimap. My temporary fix is to deforest my map. Currently I have around 1950 trees and the problem disappears. This is annoying because right now the map looks barren. I'm wondering if anyone here knows the limit or knows how to fix this issue.
On a side note, I'm also trying to change the color of minerals on the minimap. It's white-tealish atm, and I want it brown ( because they are trees).
I have the same problem with minimap icons assigned to doodads.
However the amount of icons i can show at the same time in the map is lower then yours, about 150.
Anyone knows if there is a way to remove or bypass this limit?
To fix your forest problem, why not create a new unit for your resource which instead of being one tree, is a chunk of forested area that trees are removed from as the resource count goes down. I believe this could be done with site operations, or just copying and pasting existing tree models in 3ds max. If anyone understands what i'm trying to say but knows a problem with my approach i'm sure these fellows would be glad to hear your input as well.
For bunch of trees he could just remove the minimap display on trees and place a single invisible dummy that uses a big green minimap icon.
Unfortunately I can't use this method because mine is a random generated dungeon :|
Ok, I didn't see minimap icons on triggers so I suppose you were talking about pings.
I tried using them and it seems there is no limit for their use. Unfortunately they need models so I need to create 1.
I will share them when they are complete ;)
Not sure if that works, when me and my friend tested it we cannot see any of our units on the minimap
My current solution (after deforestation) is simple not show the minerals/trees on the minimap. Currently that solves the problem although the minimap looks empty. I feel this is fairly stupid as in wc3 you can have a ton of trees and the game will run fine, though the trees there are doodads and the trees here are units so maybe that's why.
I think the best method for you is remove the icons for the trees altogether and instead, texture the ground under the trees a certain color so they are visible on the minimap.
I can't texture the terrain because I generate it dinamically :O
Now I'm using resources to solve a part of the problem, I still need 3d models to use inside the map as pings
So it seems that 2048 is the maximum amount of shown resources dots in the map.
Oh and sometimes the resource dots made my unit dots disappear so they seem shared!
If i remember right, i and my friends played a map (remake of WW3) i made where we had craptons of units after a while, and resources started disappearing off the minimap as well :/ And i think that regular units also start disappearing from the minimap, not sure though...
I hope someone finds a way around this, or blizzard removes the limit...

Sorry if this doesnt help at all.

Any help about that?

Just a random guess, but maybe you can break the limit by adding minimap icons via trigger?
If you have more than 2048 units of the same type, the excessive units are removed (randomly) when you test the map (you can place more than use).
You can bypass this failsafe by duplicating the unit -> 1500 x mineral tree 1 and 1500 x mineral tree 2 ;)
Huh, I didn't know that there was a trigger for that!!!
Thank's I'll try ;)

The maximum ammount of units you can have is around 16,000
at a certain point the game will nolonger add anymore units to the game.
Im talking about active units in gameplay created by triggers.
I just made a simple calculation
i spawn 128x128 tiles and 25% of them are gold resources.
That's the result
Considering that half of them are shown on the map I can say that
128 x 128 = 16384
16384 * 0.25 = 4096
4096 / 2 = 2048 = 2^11
So it seems that 2048 is the maximum amount of shown resources dots in the map.

stupid limit 2048 is so few.
