Allright this weeks WDE is to create a frost/ice spell, I will be interested to see how you come up with the effects needed and how you put them into action! Try the Challenges create your own. Lets see what you can do!

Challenge 1
Blizzard, everyone should remember blizzard from War3 or WoW, an AoE spell where shards of ice fall and damage people that it hits.
Challenge 2
Frost trap, A Hunter spell from world of warcraft, a trap goes out when an ememy walks over it the trap is unleashed making a large area covered in snow and slowing movement speed of enemies on the snow.
Here is my first submission and post on sc2 mapster. I have been following this site since sc2 beta and have been most interested with the editor. My specialties are terraining but i try to be well rounded. If somebody could make a video of my ability for me, that would be most appreciated :D ty
I like the effects but visually its hard to tell whats going on, where is the damage occurig and why is it stretched mroe than a screens view? mind explaining a bit more of what you did?
That's going to be difficult, simply because the only remotely cold-like effects are things like the Archon Merge model. I really hope Heart of the Swarm expands on the models and icons at our disposal. More and more I feel like the amount we have is just too limited compared to the WE (yet the GE is so much better in so many other ways). We already know HotS will bring more refined hero UI, proabbly inventories, and so on. Let's hope for some killer assets.
Sorry, I got sidetracked...back to the task at hand! I'm eager to see what actors people make use of.
lol. My spell is using Archon Merge... lol. Everything else is either too "electric" based or just... terrible for ice, lol. I am also using the LOCKDOWN model. It ain't so bad, more like a ball of Ice... or better yet, a D20. You know... dungeons and dragons... D20, LOL.
I'm also using another one for the spell but for the life of me I cannot think of its name right now.
Im not really happy with the effects and especially the sounds dont really match... but im too lazy to look through all assets.
well the spell doesnt work properly, the dmg effect isnt exactly at the impact location of the missile... i just couldnt find a way to run an effect at an actors position. (the impact locations are fully random in a certain radius)
My problem was that i wanted the beams to shoot from top to bottom. And the offsets were supposed to be random, not sure what went wrong there. Theres also a freeze bahavior that i did not set a search field for so it is not currently active. any help?
Wow... I cannot believe I am stuck. This is ridiculous. I can do much more complicated stuff, and this stupid persistent doesn't want to work.
Behavior X :: Period Count -1, Period 1.1250, Periodic Effect -> Persistent (Unlimited Duration, every 1.125 seconds will trigger Persistent Effect.
Persistent :: Period Count 6, Period Durations 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1 :: Periodic Offset (6 of them), Periodic Effect "Launch Missile", Target Location + Source Unit, Target Location Offset Start - Source Unit.
It doesn't want to work. At all. I've tried tying the Persistent directly activated by the ability, but even then it doesn't work. Why not? I've changed Target Location +, Offset Start + and Offset End + to various entries (Source Unit, Source Point, Source Unit/Point, Caster, Origin, everything... that f'kin persistent won't work!!!!!!
Soon I won't even bother doing anything in the editor involving stupid effects, I'll just stick with attachments, they're less complicated... never thought I would hear myself say that.
Oh and yea, the Launch missile works aswell. I had the ability fire off the launch instead of persistent and the missile works fine. It's definitely the Persistent Effect that just won't work.
Your period durations are btw most likely not that, what you want. They are calculated additive, not absolute. Your effects would not spawn every 0.2 seconds but after 0, 0.2, 0.6, 1.2, 2.0, 3.0 seconds.
its not that simple... my "official" impact point isnt at the animated impact point. i've set an random offset in the attack actor... i had to come up with some hacky solutions to put the snow and impact effect at that location (with an attached actor at the missile). but the official point of the missile isnt at the same location of the animation model, so effects on the missile dont work neither... i would need a function to create an effect on an actor.

As to the lack of assets, there are no models anyone can think of without playing around with the tinting of the colour to make it look icy?

oh and the damage is occuring at the top of the beam/frost animations in random offsets around the target point
Your beams seem to be shooting sideways rather than from the sky. Maybe try a vertical offset combined with an explicit rotation (local) SOps.

the Behavior has -1 Period Count, and the only flags for behaviors is 'Hidden'. My persistent has 6 Period Count.
