How would I create units that would follow the main unit around and attack on it's own when an enemy got within range? I want to make ghost like spirits that follow a unit around but I have absolutely no idea where to begin.
hmmm , do u want it to act like the intercepter of the carriere?? if so . prety eassy
- find the carrier Unit
- Duplicate the Intercepter behaviour/Effect/weapon ( sorry im not at home so i dunno exacly what its called it might just be a actual CARRIER WEAPON and not an effect or behaviour.) its the same princable as a »Broodlord broodling attack. <
- add it to your Ghost/spirit
- Modifie the Intercepters`model/actor to what ever u want ( or simply change the unit )
Well it's a passive ability of a hero and any player can choose that hero. So as many as 12 of them can be on the map at once but only one owned per player.
Look at how broodlords build their broodlings. In the ability Brood Lord - Brood Lord Hangar you can see how to set up a hangar ability that allows external interceptors. Check the external flag, and add external angles and do the rest like carriers do it.
As Builder_Bob said you need an Arm Magazine ability that creates your units with external selected. The units will automatically seek targets but will be rallied to a single target by your units weapon (like brood lord). The only ways to avoid this are to make your unit have no attack ability, no weapon, constantly get the spawned units to be issue ordered to attack a different target or to make a dummy unit with no attack and weapon that follows your unit using the shadow SOp.

I don't want them to disappear into the main unit when they aren't attacking. I want them to basically follow him ghostly like when not attacking.
Will there ever be multiple of these units? If not I think I know how it could be done.
There will at first be 4 and then it can be upgraded to more.
