I can make a unit do additional damage through a behavior easily through the combat tab, but how do I apply an effect through the behavior that adds, say, 10 damage to biological units that the unit under the effect targets? I tried setting a Search Area effect through the Effect: Effect - Initial on the behavior that then applies a new damage effect, but it doesn't work.
what i got from your post is that you want to add a behavior to a unit by targeting them, and only if their flagged as biological.
A way to do this would be to make it into an Ability with the Ability Type as Behavior and when the Ability is used to apply the behavior to the targeted unit.
and then then adding a validator to require units flagged as biological.
You probably want to use the "damage response" fields under your behavior and add a validator to the response which checks that the appropriate unit is biological.

Or make the damage response on attacker on the unit doing the attacking that just uses a damage effect that only does damage to biological.
Also the Unit Comapare Order Queue validator might be a friend here in that it can be used to determine the attack target.
