I'm interested in finding someone to create a loading screen for my map, but I want to attract someone with skill and I'd like to pay for the work. I know there is a request forum for this, but I just wanted to see if people had any real opinions on how much their time is worth. I have no image editing skills so I really don't know how difficult it is to create this kind of thing.
I was thinking of offering somewhere between $40-$100 for the work, depending on the level of effort an artist wants to put into it. Does anyone have a suggestion on how this price range compares with the level of effort/skill to create a loading screen? The loading screen would be fairly straight forward, including a textured background (not an image), a logo (already have this as an image file), some game instructions, and a timeline infographic showing the player some pre-game story.
BTW, if anyone who reads this has immediate interest in helping before I make the official thread in the request forum, send me a PM and let me know what you can do.
Offering any money is more than fair in the custom map world. It's generally a world where no pay is expected. I think your amount is good for the work you'll get from here.
As an aside, a professional graphic artist may charge $65 an hour etc...
40 bucks is outrageous (way to high) if you already have the logo made. What else is there to do? Plop it onto a textured background and add some backstory/instructions text? Maybe if you had not already done the logo, because that's the hardest part. It requires a lot of planning and then the actual design work. (or it can be a 10 minute job, depending on how hard you try).
I'm sure many people would do it for free here.

That took me 2 minutes to make. Now, obviously it's not beautiful nor professional artwork. But it's not terrible either. Grab one of the billion pics of units off google, stick into image, add fancy sc2 font text, splatter some blood. And again, that took me 2 minutes. Especially if you already have the logo done, 40 bucks is wayyy to much. This is something you can do yourself with microsoft paint.
For my architectural renders I charge $55 for the first image and $35 for additional frames. Take note that my prices are also in a third world country where you expect people to not be able to afford this kind of luxury for their projects so you kinda have to sell yourself for cheap prices.
In the US it should be more ;o
But honestly creating a loading screen and with the requirements you're saying it seems like not actual effort is really needed so anywhere in the range os $12-$50 would be okay which is the ammount we charge in here for small infographics like soap label designs (Yes, I've done that :P) and for still frames (photography)
That said, I can screw up everyone wanting the money and I'll just do it for free, what do you want? :P
If you're serious, I'll send you a PM tomorrow with what I'm looking for.
Also, I'd like to point out that I could pay two bucks to tip a bartender for just filling up a couple of glasses. I think tipping for custom map work seems pretty reasonable. I definitely want people to feel like they've done something valuable for me.

No it's not. Industry prices are way higher.

Deviant Art strikes me as the place for this kind of thing.

Still waiting :P
Oh really? In that case, you owe me 500 dollars for my services.
Actually, I just went back and found that logo. It was pretty bad lol :D Get xcorbo to make you a better one. Sounds like he's a professional.

Just dropped you a nuke of text in your PM box.
Also what this guy says, if you can whip up a cleaner logo then I will be very appreciative.
