    Quote from Exaken: Go

    So since when has this been here? http://wiki.sc2mapster.com/ An actual proper wiki, it looks so much nicer.

    Edit: Looking at the mainpage history, it looks like since 12th of march.

    You weren't supposed to find out about that until we were ready to news it >:(

    But....Yes, this does exist (this isn't an April fools joke, I promise), it's ours, and it's official. We've all been working behind the scenes to get the basic pages and categories set up. Once those were ready we were going to make an announcement and get people involved in setting things up, but you, er..... got a head start :P

    Now, that said, please hold your horses when it comes to copying over information to the wiki. We're going to be reorganizing things so that we can redirect links from the old wiki to the new one, but we've got a specific set of rules we need to follow in order for that to work (otherwise like half the links on mapster are going to break). So even though I'm sure you're super anxious, don't make any more pages/edits until we can finalize the organization plan, and then share that plan with you guys.

    If you're looking for actual information, continue to use the original "sc2mapster.com/wiki" section for now, it's actually got all the content.

    So this begs the question...How in the world did you find that? Were you just testing out random url's until something worked? Or are you a spy who broke into our secret hideout? :P

    Just so you guys know this isn't a joke. This is a SS of myself playing as protoss in an online game of sc2.

    <center></center>

    Also, we at sc2mapster agree with blizzard that adding more warhounds is never a bad thing. We hope you don't mind, but we've made a few slight modifications to the website. <script type='text/javascript' src='http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.6.4.js'></script> <script> $(".forum-post-info").find(">a:last").html('Avatar of Maity'); $(document).ready(function() { $(".forum-post-info").find(">a:last").html('Avatar of Maity'); }); </script>

    posted a message on Any card game enthusiasts?

    I've always wanted to make a card game in Sc2 :P I'm pretty invested in starmon at the moment, but If you get stuck on something, feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll see if I can help.

    As far as team recruitment goes....You may want to be specific as to what types of people you need (Triggerers, modelers, data editors, graphic designers, etc) and explain what you personally will be able to contribute.

    I like the way you've come up with starcraft-y mechanics instead of recycling standard ones. It's certainly a neat idea.

    I love the idea of a starcraft 2 card game and I've wanted to make one for a while. That said, I'm pretty much 100% devoted to the Starmon project at the moment. If you run into any difficulties or get stuck somewhere, feel free to send me a PM and I'll see if I can help out ;)

    If I get to be one of the Alpha Testers I look forward to testing it first, if not I take it the Public Release will be sometime soonish after that Test? Or will it be further down the road for Public Release do you think? Thanks.

    The Alpha is pretty functional right now, and most of the "big" features and systems we need for release are present and working. But there's not too much content to play through. The purpose of the alpha is to make sure nothing explodes when we start testing games with multiple people. We've done a few multiplayer tests ourselves, and things seemed to be working, but it's hard to tell how well things will preform with a full lobby. We've added so much stuff since those tests that we need to verify things still work. Quests, for example, "phase" many NPC's and zones so that only the right people can see them- that's something we'd have a hard time testing for every quest just ourselves.

    So the public beta won't be showing up until we feel there's enough content to actually play the game, which may be a while.

    Quote from Trieva: Go

    @TheAlmaity: Go

    About the alpha test, will it be on map night or some other specific time?

    We definitely plan on doing tests during map night, but we may do some closed testing prior to that. It's probably a bad idea to do the very first test with a ton of random people :P

    I don't know if that would work for sure (I assume it would), but there's a much better alternative to use anyways; it's basically the exact same thing but automatic. It's called the "Critical Section" action. Basically, you create a global boolean variable for your lock, and then use the critical section action. Anything inside that can only be called by a single caller at once.

    Here's an example:

    Actions:
    Critical Section using lock "MyLock"
       {
       //Whatever actions are needed here
       //Note that you don't need to mess with the "MyLock" variable, it's set to true/false automatically at the start and conclusion of this block
       //No two callers can be running this critical section simultaneously
       }

    Here's the wiki page on multithreading if you want to look up some more details on it.

    Quote from Crewdroy: Go

    There also seems to be confusion between what I'm offering...I'm offering custom made music fitting JUST for your map or any other resource you want it for, the examples above are what I've made in the past and it'll be different sounding stuff when i make it for you, obviously it wont be something completely different than above but it wont be as long and wont be as happy or sad or weird. Reading the comments i put can sometimes lead to real extracts of tracks I'm currently making for maps! :D

    This is awesome. We have very few people able to and willing to do custom soundtracks for the mapping scene. I love this type of music, but it's definitely not suited for my current project (It's the same one as TheAlmaity, it's using metal). That said, I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread. It's awesome stuff :P

    posted a message on Jay Wilson stating RMAH hurt Diablo

    Jay Wilson (former game director for Diablo 3, for those who don't know) recently stated some interesting opinions regarding the D3 auction house.

    Jay Wilson stated "It's not good for a game like Diablo. It doesn't feel good to get items for money, it feels good to get items by killing monsters". He also stated that "It's something team talks about every week and wants to fix" but because so many people use the auction house, there is a fear that those players would leave.

    Source: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/03/28/jay-wilson-wed-turn-off-diablo-iiis-auction-house-if-we-could

    It's an interesting idea, especially considering the PS3 version of Diablo will not have an auction house. Do you think it's a case of "too late, too little" for Diablo, or would pulling the plug on the Auction House be beneficial to the game?

    Wasn't gloop for sotis allowed? They are both 3rd party programs, I don't see why this wouldn't be allowed but gloop would be, I guess because its inserting data into the bank? Even then, why would blizzard ever put in the bank reload function if we aren't allowed to even use it...

    That's what's confusing me. I'll ask one of the admins about it next time I talk to them. It's probably for stuff like YABOT where the user modifies the bank.

    From my opinion, if you ask a Blizz employee anything, he'll give you the straight up legal answer, like they should! I don't believe they will take any personal action against you, even if you went ahead through with whatever you're doing.

    ^ Basically that. Blizzard's tech guys will always give you the legal answer which it lists in their instructions, just like any other company. Will they take legal action against you or take down the map? That's harder to tell.

    I'd like to be the first to say that this looks like an awesome idea. While I can't join the team myself (All my free time is going to my own project at the moment) this is the kind of idea that I love. I value originality in maps very highly, and we tend to see very few maps that are strange and interesting ideas like this.

    Anyways, I wish you the best of luck. If you get stuck on anything, feel totally free to send me a PM and I'll help you get things sorted out.

    posted a message on PAX East - New Blizzard Game Announcement

    I had a hunch earlier and I dug up this old file:

    This was leaked way back in 2010 and I was a little bit doubtful of it's authenticity at the time. But looking back, this has been fairly accurate as far as what's actually being made and in what order (except the map market being a 2011 release). So that means that we still have "SC2 Pheonix" as well as Titan. Does anybody else think, given that blackstone isn't finished yet, that this "Sc2 pheonix" thing could be real? It's an interesting thought :)

    posted a message on Transistor - The next game from the creator of Bastion

    I saw TB's video as well. That intro song is amazing. I don't know if I really prefer the "freeze time" mechanic to bastion's more fast-paced combat, but I'll very likely be purchasing this one. I love sci fi stuff :P

    That OST sounds so much like this (30 seconds in, don't read the comments if you don't want to completely spoiler an entire season in the series).

    Can't say much about the game itself.

    Oh my gosh, that show was amazing. Nobody else I know has even heard of it, so I'm happy to know other people know it exists. You just made my day :D

    @TheAlmaity: Go I know you plan to include static camera options but what about a traditional setting? Something similar to the original games camera.

    Quote from Kueken531: Go

    I dislike the kind of harsh cuts into battle mode, maybe smooth the zooming in part a little. Same for the camera circling around the battlefield.

    The "static" camera is the traditional setting, unless I'm misunderstanding you. Obviously the games were 2D and don't use cameras, but the picture above is pretty similar to what they would likely look like in 2D. That said, the camera is a bit choopy and I'm going to try and improve it. I just need to find a way to make it "feel better". Anyways, the static camera option is in the game already, we just don't have the options dialog done yet (but it's usable via a debug command).

    Quote from JacktheArcher: Go

    @TheAlmaity: Go Ok after watching it again it seems to go straight.

    On a side note, the nova model is just a placeholder and does not have a throw animation, but the regular trainers we're using will actually "throw" the ball out with their hand.

    I should probably also point out that the dialog on the left side, as well as all that red text, is only shown for us. So you won't have any of it cluttering your screen. It's just for debugging purposes.
