posted a message on The Hybrid as a playable race?

I think there will be a lot of hybrid stuff at the next expansion, Legacy of the Void. For an altered melee map, hybrid would be a good idea, but not as a fourth race in normal melee.

For buildings/units, the Hybrid would have a mix between small and weak spawns (more zerg-like), and the powerful hybrid as seen in the campaigns (more Protoss-like).

The project is kind of dead. I have no idea about how it died. There were about 6 people working on this project, but i fear it's already too late.

posted a message on Broodmothers missions ideas

These maps could be called Tales of the Broodmothers. One or two missions for each broodmother, and tell the stories of their planet and their Swarm. I suggest making these missions playable solo as well as co-op (with 1 friend) The following Broodmothers are mentioned in the HotS campaign. I rushed through the HotS campaign (with cheats) to find the information about the broodmothers.

    • Zagara- Zagara is your companion during the campaign, but there could be a mission/several missions about her and her brood right after the artifact turned Kerrigan into a human (WoL campaign)
    • Kilysa- Mentioned in a cutscene in the campaign, Kilysa's brood has a lot of leviathans. Kerrigan asks her brood to invade the planet Mistaff 4, where the Dominion trains their infantry.
    • Niadra- Playable in the mission of invading a protoss ship. Maybe this mission could be expanded or improved as a version of Tales of the Broodmothers, or a 'sequel' to that mission.
    • Ryloth- Also mentioned in a cutscene, Ryloth has a very large brood. She is asked by Kerrigan to destroy Jontur 2, where the Dominion builds ships.
    • Naktul- In another cutscene, Naktul speaks for the remaining broodmothers that want to join the Swarm. No further information is given, so we can use our creativity here. Maybe make a mission about Naktul's brood on Umoja?

    Good luck.

posted a message on Koprulu Wars - an Azeroth Wars (wc3) remake for SC2
    Quote from ButtAirFly: Go

From a perspective of functionality, the landbridges work. They just do not look very pretty or feel overly space-y. In my personal opinion, this is better than portal systems or drop based systems, though, as these need more tedious and unnecessary micromanagement that retards the flow of the game artificially, at least from what I've experienced. It is still far from perfect, though

That's what i meant with 'doesnt work very well'

    Quote from ButtAirFly: Go

I think the size of planets is not necessarily a big issue, as a map like Azeroth Wars never needed that many structures. A system atm fits enough barracks-structures and defenses to work properly. But yeah, it is simply not as elegant as Azeroth would be.

The sizes of all units could be decreased as well to create more space.

    Quote from ButtAirFly: Go

I believe the air issue can be adequately addressed with balancing units accordingly or restricting the number of air units being built through a resource system, e.g. air is gas-heavy, which is more restricted than minerals

IMO, limiting air units is the best solution for this, just like they did in Azeroth Wars.

    Quote from ButtAirFly: Go

Another alternative would be to create systems akin to what The Final Frontier map did. This would simply leave out all ground based combat in favor of air combat over systems, which can work. But for a more action packed game without a strong building component, this reduction of dimensions is problematic likewise. There would be no natural chokes and it would lack the ground-air interplay.

This could be a solution to this: Planets could only be entered with air units, after which you can drop off your ground units from your air transports. There could also be a toggle ability to auto-drop units from transports when entering a planet. For several planets, for example the warp gate network between Aiur and Shakuras (just an example) could portal through both ground and air units to each other.

posted a message on Koprulu Wars - an Azeroth Wars (wc3) remake for SC2

It is indeed hard to make this and all fit it on a single map. The landbridge idea doesn't work very well, as seen in the picture, air units could easily dominate everything. By the looks, i guess the planets are also quite small. The problem of making the entire storyline in sc2 compared to wc3 is the traveling to other planets. in sc2's story you swap from planet to planet, whereas in wc3 you generally stay on 1 or 2 worlds. I think the best way to travel between planets is a portal system, but then you'll also need something to prevent/discourage camping.

posted a message on Koprulu Wars - an Azeroth Wars (wc3) remake for SC2

    Hello everyone,

Some of you might know the map in Warcraft 3 called Azeroth Wars. Azeroth Wars is a large strategy game in which you control one of 12 factions in Warcraft and fight for the world of Azeroth. Azeroth Wars features:

    • 12 Factions, each with their own main bases, units and heroes
    • Many areas on the map called Control Points, which are captured and held to provide income
    • The storyline of Warcraft 3, but isn't dependant on it
    • 3 exclusive Masteries for each faction, which provide bonuses to your army.

As far as I know, there aren't any maps with this concept in sc2, and i would like to have such a strategy game. Unfortunately, i don't know anything about SC2's Editor besides basic terraining, so all I could is provide ideas and be the project leader.

The following factions could be used in the map, for a total of 11 players. (we need one more faction to make it a total of 12 players, any ideas?)

    1. The Taldarim and Hybrid (2 players)
    2. The Swarm (2 players)
    3. The Primal Zerg (2 players)
    4. Raynor's Raiders
    5. The Dominion
    6. The UED
    7. The Protoss (2 players)

And please answer these questions for me:

    • Is it possible to make such a map? (it's hard to make all the planets fit in 1 map, and we also need a way of traveling between them)
    • Would you be interested in playing such a game?

    Thanks in advance.

By terran base I meant 1-2 barracks and maybe a bunker.

Also can you think of how to properly introduce the hero when you only meet him in the middle of an infiltration mission?

Still we should keep that mission idea for later

Already said it, make a cinematic connecting mission 1 and 2 and telling the story of the hero.

posted a message on Swarm Infestation - Inzarka

A survival mission. Cool idea. Here's my suggestions:

    • Let each player (i suggest 6-8 players) pick one of these soldier classes: Ghost, Marine, Marauder, Medic, Firebat, Spectre, Heavy Gunner (Tychus-like), Commander (not very strong in combat, but has many army bonuses).
    • Resource system:
    1. Minerals are gained as a bounty for killing enemy units, and a large amount is gained every time you succesfully escort a miner colony to a nearby radiated mineral field (due to radiation, the minerals have turned gold :P)
    2. Vespene gas: There are some Vespene geysers spread over the map (about 4). One of them is in your base. All Geysers automatically give a small amount of vespene income, but the resources need to be collected by players (still spread evenly). If you lose a Refinery, you need to rebuild it for a cost in minerals.
    3. Radioactive Biomass: The Jungle landscape has a lot of biomass that got radioactive when the comet from Char fell. This biomass can be picked up (much like mineral and gas pick-ups in campaign), and collected from killed elite units/bosses. All Radioactive biomass is gathered by the Scientist (maybe even a soldier class on its own), and can be used to research special upgrades.
    • A Protoss Colony has picked up the signs too, but they are not interested in helping the poor Terrans ( :( ). Instead, they start a research colony on the planet to gather the biomass for their own research. The soldiers can choose to become friends with them, by giving them the biomass they need, as a reward, they will help kill the Hives, or the soldiers can be enemies with them, making them hostile, but able to be destroyed, with all resources stored with them given to the Terrans. (this adds another strategic part of the game.)

I could give more ideas later, but this is all for now. Good luck!

PS: Name the map Inzarka. Sounds amazing XD.
