Is there a mod released online yet which you are working off? I don't care if it works yet or not, I'd just like to be able to prepare.

Forgot to include Skype details. If I could be added to the conversation that would be grand. skype = finite_turtles

EDIT: Actually, doesn't matter if it is online or not. If I could see the file that would be awesome. I just want to know what all the internal IDs are going to be so I can make sure everything links up correctly upon release

Is there an ETA on this mod?

There are other mods I would like to combine it with which would be mutually benificial. I want to know how much time I have left to prepare. Also if there's a discussion board could I get an invite? I'd like to keep up to date with the projects going ons. Thanks.

I meant auto kick (ban) and if he keeps pestering you with abuse or complaints then block communication using Bnets block communication tool. Lifes too short to waste on negative people.

Just block him and be done with it. Sounds like you have taken every possible act to reconcile with this person. 99% of the time people are misunderstood or there is some kind of miscommunication between people. Good on you for trying, but it sounds like this guy is the 1%.

His own actions lie on himself. You are not responsible for his actions and him trying to blackmail people with worse behaviour if he doesn't get his way does not make it any more your responsibility what HE does.

As for people claiming it's against TOS I guess that's up for interpretation. You're not allowed to discriminate against players? Good, you're not. You're discriminating against behaviour. The blocked persons experience of the game is exactly the same experience as everyone elses. If you have a policy of blocking players who deliberately cause grief and have shown no interest in participating in the community and apply that policy across the board then you have not discriminated against anybody.

I remember constant whining from people who got blocked from mafia on the Bnet forums. There are literally hundreds of posts across many different threads spanning 2 years complaining that they got blocked. The first reference I found was from 6th Janruary 2012 and the last was over 2 years later saying the same practice continues on the 9th of february 2014. Blizzard has even responded to these complaints and their response was effectively "STFU. We know, we just don't care", which I would say is the correct response to someone complaining they were blocked for harassing inocent people.

What I would recomend for you to do? If someone continuously harasses people then publish a second version of the map under a modified name. Say your map is called x, publish a modified map called "x (no bans)" and disable the ban system on the second version. If someone is banned on the origional map have an automated message directing them to the other version. Anyone who wants to play the second version is free to do so. I think it is best summerized in this xkcd comic: http://xkcd.com/1357/

He is free to behave however he wants, you're not stopping him. But at the same time you are free to behave how you want, and what you want is the freedom to hang out with and form groups with people who are friendly.

Thanks for the heads up MasterWrath. I might soon be embarking on a large project that will require this kind of stuff.

It's a mystery to me why this kind of thing isn't listed in some kind of Blizzard information or tutorial.

turtle thats all editor related, not directly arcade and bnet. we could also open a new thread with editor things collected in one post. i want it all in one post for easy access, arguments are in the single posts.

i could give you thousand things i want to have in editor but the chances are even lower than sc2 and bnet2.0 itself. i think bnet 2.0 will be used for more games and therefore they HAVE to work on it. the editor will most likely stay bugged forever and i will fill those crash reports again and again.

That banks break when trying to play extension mods is a bug that happens on Bnet. It's not an editor bug.

Colours in the ratings system? We can come up with better things than that. How about just fixing what they currently have.

Banks are still broken on extension maps (as in, they don't work AT ALL).

edit boxes are still limited to 255 characters, a ridiculously small limit. (I think Blizz might have attempted to fix this in the past but the fix didn't work)

After that, getting proper pointers back in the trigger editor would make me happy but I can understand taking a long time to implement new things. Fix broken features first, THEN create new ones.

posted a message on Running SC2 editor from an external drive? or without SC2?

    @XViper: Go

If you have a CD you could put the CD in your work computer and chose the instilation folder as the external hard drive. That should work fine.

But if you install SC2 at home onto the external hard drive and then take it to work there's a good chance it won't work.

the While statement crashes my map every time I use it.

You're probably not updating the condition in the while loop causing an infinite loop.

I'm used to using the GUI as well and can get around pretty fast in it. More just thinking so I can write scripts when away from my gaming computer such as on my laptop on the train or even on paper when I don't have access to my computer with SC2 on it. which happens a lot of the time.

Also I love it when someone picks the origin of my name. Usually I just go by turtles these days so nobody knows. :)

    Could do.

Once I discovered hardcore mode in Diablo 2 it was all I ever played. With a high level character that could be weeks/months of effort gone forever in a single lag spike. I've heard of games which randomly start to corrupt files on your computer so it is a race to defeat the game before your computer is broken. People get a rush out of adrenalin sports too.

    High risk = hish reward.

    posted a message on Winners?

For what it's worth (not much) I had a brief contact with a Blizzard employee who mentioned the possibility of another mapping contest and also dropped an idea of what it might be. But I don't want to say what the idea was because...

    1. I don't know if it was just an idea that he had as an individual or a company idea.
    2. If it IS a company idea I'm not sure I should spill the beans before they announce it.
    3. There might not even BE another mapping contest.
    4. I'd rather just be a tease :P

posted a message on What will crash the game?

For what it's worth I am currently trying to STOP my game from crashing. So I guess you could do what I'm doing...

run this native function "AIDefaultGetMaker(1, ("SCV"))" it returns a string so do something like StringVariable = AIDefaultGetMaker(1, ("SCV"))

It will cause the game to freeze up and die. after a while they get a crash report and the option to submit the crash report to Blizzard. Players must ctrl-alt-delete to get out of it.

    (Also you are evil :P)

posted a message on best way to write scripts

What is the best way to code using the scripting language instead of the GUI?

A long time ago I found some methods online but they were very tedious and time consuming and I can no longer find the links online. A lot of the time I find myself making only changes to a few lines of code and then running it to see the output so any overhead in getting the script to run builds up very quickly.

I know there is an action in the GUI called custom script where you can place text. I've had to do that before to access things which are not available through the GUI but are there any limitations to that function? can you define and call functions through it? Is there a limit to how long it can be? for example if I had 10 thousand lines of code could I just place the entire program in a single "custom script" block in the GUI?

    Thanks.

posted a message on Tutorial Central and JaKaTaK recruiting Map Team

    Hi JaKaTaK,

I've previously made something somewhat simillar to your harass defense drill idea that I think you might be interested in. With a little modification it could be made to be almost exactly like what you are after.

One of the projects I'm working on is creating an AI. The first part of the AI I made was the harassment section and stuck it on a map to test it out. After playing the map for a while I realized I was having a lot of fun and thought it might be usefull for other players to practice defending against harassment.

Made a video so you can see.

It works as a mod as well so it can be placed on any map and is open source so I don't mind if anyone picks it up and modifies it. For instance it could be quite easily changed so that the only units it sends are overlords, then it would be almost identical to the map you were looking for.

    EDIT:

As you may have noticed when the AI is activated on the map then vision of the map is removed and resources are set to 0 minerals and 0 gas.

Sending you this thread and some more details in an email to you.
